David E. Fox Writes:

DNA from supposed known descendants of this David Fox has disproved any relationship to Henry Fox, husband of Anne West.
From our paper in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy (page 17)

"More than a dozen other Fox Project members erroneously thought they might be descendants of Henry Fox and Anne West. This list includes a descendant of William Eires Fox (b. 1758 in Virginia), a descendant of Allen Fox (b. 1760 in North Carolina), a descendant of John Fox (b. ca. 1705– 15 in Essex County, Virginia), two descendants of John B. Fox (b. 1745 in Orange County, Virginia) and his wife Ann Barber, and two descendants of William Fox (b. 1836 in Warwick County, Virginia), whose parents were William Fox and Nancy Stacy."

Also disproven were 'tested' descendants of William Fox & Sarah Avent.

Have been searching for a proven male descendant of Henry's son, John, or brother, John,. Haven't found one yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated...but it is incorrect to label any DNA data to descendants of David Fox, as son of Henry Fox & Anne West, or Richard for that matter...

Disconnected David Fox as child of Henry Fox, l & Anne Fox

I’m copying over the summary abstract from this study:

Combining conventional genealogical research with Y-DNA testing offers a powerful tool for confirming male lines of descent. One prominent American Fox family of Colonial Virginia had been well studied, but some relationships remained unverified. For example, was Henry Fox 2nd (1674–1750) actually the son of Henry Fox 1st (1650–1714) and Anne West? Some genealogists had denied the connection based on a lack of evidence in his grandfather’s will. We analyzed Y-DNA short tandem repeat (STR) results from selected descendants of this Colonial Fox family to answer this and other outstanding questions. The DNA evidence agreed with traditional research identifying Henry Fox 2nd as the true son of Henry Fox 1st. Henry Fox 1st belonged to the R1b-L47 haplogroup, and we inferred his 37-marker STR haplotype, giving us a firm basis for comparison. DNA testing of other Fox men was able to confirm or refute proposed relationships to this family and, in the process, expand on other genealogical research efforts. Most unexpectedly, a connection to a well researched Colonial Philadelphia Fox family was uncovered.

Meanwhile, this person, CAPT Thomas B Claiborne, Jr is connected on Geni to Gentleman Henry Fox's son Colonel Thomas Fox as his "husband." Please disconnect him.

Private User Claiborne tree cleaned up.

Except for this guy, Lt. Col. William Claiborne, II being included as a son of Lt. Col. William Claiborne, Ill I started to merge William with Lt. Col. William Claiborne, II but noticed a lot of different info so I stopped. Thanks, Erica.

Yes, the new profile was his grandfather, so I merged him there.

And meanwhile Katherine "Elizabeth" Claiborne shows as the wife, rather than the mother of Lt. Col. William Claiborne, Ill

His real wife had lost her possible maiden name - I put it back.

I see

Lt. Col. William Claiborne, Ill
Immediate Family:
Son of Lt. Col. William Claiborne, II and Katherine "Elizabeth" (Wilkes) Claiborne
Husband of Elizabeth (Dandridge) Claiborne

Yep. It's fixed now. I don't understand how this "spam data" gets attached to Master profiles.
Given that both the mother and the wife of William III are listed as Katherine "Elizabeth," I suspect the confusion came about as a result of the confusion between William II and William III, rather than because each of these two unrelated women shared the exact same name combination. Additionally, John Dandridge's profile lists daughter "Elizabeth" and on wikitree it says there was a daughter Elizabeth b. 1696 (no further data), Elizabeth b. 1703 married Henry Wyatt, and Elizabeth b. 1673 married William Claiborne. Wife of John Dandridge the father was born in 1656 and the date of their marriage is listed as 1676, so there is a problem with the birthdate for Elizabeth-wife-of-Claiborne.

I reviewed the discussion on Elizabeth/Catherine's page Catherine (or Elizabeth) Claiborne and Latrobe says "Elizabeth" with a birthdate of 1673 but IN VA, which would not have been possible if her father married Bridget Dugdle in England in 1676. "Our Southern Cousins" gives Catherine Elizabeth WILKES as wife to William II and mother to William III.

The whole tree looks messed up to me, but at the least, maybe make William II's wife Catherine Elizabeth Wilkes and make William III's wife Elizabeth Dandridge? I see no sources to indicate "Katherine" possibly being her name.

Does this help at all, or only confuse things? https://gw.geneanet.org/tdowling?lang=en&p=elizabeth&n=dand...
