ATTENTION ALL CURATORS And GENI And MYHERITAGE STAFF!

NOW HEAR THIS!

I just paid Geni $119.40 for a one year subscription. I also paid MyHeritage $119.40 for a one year subscription. I got immediate emails and a phone call confirming these newly paid for memberships. So, I then went to an email I had with Smart Matches, to do some work on my tree. As soon as I went to a profile to confirm or reject, I got another pop-up demanding still another, not quite, $100.00 from MyHeritage, so I could enter data.

I have been trying for several months to get them to tell me EXACTLY how much it was going to cost me to work freely in both sites. No answer. One curator even sent a message to customer service, on my behalf, to give me an answer to this ONE EXTREMELY SIMPLE question 2-3 weeks ago. No answer.

I have made many comments concerning this problem already. I only got anger from curators.

The problem is that I'm not the only person complaining about these continuous surprise fees, and still can't do anything more than what you could do with the free memberships, and don't tell me it takes them time to process those fees, because I got instant confirmations on my paid memberships, AND I waited three weeks for Geni to get my membership processed the last time I bought one with them and could still did nothing.

You want more paying members? Then do what it takes to get them.

I don't want to hear one angry or unhelpful word from even one curator. If you can't give me an honest answer, I don't want to hear from you, but it is way past time the administrators of both companies understood reality.

REALITY! You're not going to get paying members by acting like scammers. Your pop-up surprise fees, with all their empty promises is the favorite trick of all scammers. You've heard the saying, "Honesty is the best policy"? Well, there's a mountain full of truth in that saying!

VERY Sincerely,
Sylvia M. Hertel
Lead, S.D.

P.S. I love Geni to the core. I just don't like being taken for a ride. The bank even called me at about 9 pm, questioning these charges.
Sylvia

Sylvia curators are customers & volunteers & have nothing to do with billing. So if you post this on a thread asking curators to "do something" you are being unfair, at best.

You need to address concerns to the people who can help, which is the staff at Geni & MyHeritage - not curators. Right above are detailed instructions on opening a ticket. If for some reason there is a difficulty with that, then as a "personal favor" to a collaborator, as I did with Rick, I will open one asking CS to contact you, and post back the (private) ticket number for your tracking.

Please advise if that is something useful.

At this point I still do not understand the role of curators in Uruguay

Are these profiles of the same person?

Gustavo Latorre ( c ) thinks that these profiles are the same. If you agree , accept the merger application below .

I'm not Pro and can not do merges

(No Name) -- you need a Geni Pro Membership and a MyHeritage Data Subscription to do anything with SmartMatches. A MyHeritage paid membership was/is not necessary unless you want it for working on MyHeritage tree -- and it doesn't help at all for using SmartMatches on Geni.

Also - need to be logged in to both Geni and MyHeritage Data Subscription -- else will get the message; and think need same e-mail, possibly same password - but do not know about that for sure.

Lois,
Thank you so much for all the links. They explained a lot, but to be sure I understand one point correctly, did I have to buy two $119.40 memberships, one for each, MyHeritage and Geni? Or did I buy one too many?

I think I still have enough money to buy the Data subscription, but it is going to be tight. However, I am so completely sold on Geni (I don't know much about MyHeritage yet), that I am willing to make my money work, if there is anyway possible.

Please note: it took six links to get the one answer to my question, and I'm still not sure if I have it perfectly clear in my head. Why can't all those links be combined into one obvious place? I just don't understand why they have to make it so difficult, and waste so much of your precious time, on searching out a simple answer to a simple question, when you could so much better spend that time on building your tree.

But then most of today's world completely baffles me. Honesty and integrity used to be the hallmark of any Judeo-Christian society. Not anymore. It is so very, very sad.

God bless you in all your endeavors.
Most Sincerely
Shalom,
Sylvia M. Hertel

Sylvia -Yes, I think you spent $119.40 more than you had to - did not need the MyHeritage Premium Membership -- no idea if you can cancel your MyHeritage Premium Subscription and get at least a partial refund - in any case, make sure it is not on automatic renewal. They tell you that you need a MyHeritage Membership -- think it would be kind if the spelled out that free, Basic Membership was sufficient - but of course, they want all the money they can get, I guess.

Dear Enrique:

That are not in this to be in "private" perhaps you can tell me as "open" as it is not in my interest not know ALL the family line.

best regards,
Can you please explain to this good lady as is done for the tree to remain

public, not private as it is now
Pueden Ustedes hace el favor de explicarle a esta buena Señora como se hace para que el árbol quede público y no privado como está ahora

Can someone help me retitle a Project? The present title is "Family Tree (Blafer, Chalek, Groveman, Bein, Goldstein, Kutcher, Zalatkevitz, Schupakevitz, Steisel" The new Title should be: "Family Website for: Blafer/Bleifer (Adelglass/Edelglass, Garber, Meyerson, Zweigbaum), Bein, Chalek/Cheilek/Chalick, Groveman (Cutler/Catler, Lerner, Wasserman,Neukrug/Neikrug), Goldstein/Zoltkevitz/Zalatkevitz/Zoltkewicz,(Yellin), Goldstein/Sczupekiewicz/Schupakevitz, Kutcher, and Steisel."

Dr. Jerome Lionel Blafer, I have tried editing this for you but it is reluctant to accept - possibly because I'm not a collaborator. This is how to do it:

Go to the project (you can search project in the search box at top of screen by selecting the magnifying glass and choosing 'project')
When in the project go to 'edit' and type in the correct title.

May I make a suggestion though? I think this is a VERY long title for a project and probably a very wide remit for a project. You can use tags so that people searching for your names in projects will be directed to the project.

I hope this helps.

Terry. Your answer solved my problem. However, clicking the edit button allows one to edit the body of the message but not the title. Your suggestion about using tags was a procedure that I did not know. My reason for changing the title was only to help make contacts with the major surnames found in my family (which includes the families of the grandparents of my wife and me). So... I added the surnames as tags. Now, a search for one of the family names will display my project, where the family member searcher can see my email address and find out that we have a family website that fills in family information (not profiles).
Thanks for the quick response and for helping me improve my Geni experience. Jerry

Glad I was able to help Jerry, that is what we curators are here for (well partly anyway). I hope you enjoy your Geni experience. Your tree looks interesting and you may like to consider adding profiles to other Geni projects - I note that some of your family were sadly killed by the Nazi's and there are a number of projects that would cover this.

hmm.. I am getting There was a problem retrieving this relationship path. Please try again later error when trying to view a profile.. I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help with that or not.. anybody else getting this?

Michael that kind of message is usually a temporary slow connection on the Internet. Ignore it, try again later.

thanks Erica Howton I kinda figured as much.. I was trying to look up my path to Marsha Gail Kamish and i got the I guess temporary error.. just wanted to see if it could be reproduced or if it was just a one time thing.. Since there wasn't a report problems here thread and since I'm not a pro member and can't get priority support I figured i'd post it here.

nope still getting the error been a hour.

It's not a Geni problem, I don't have the error. It's your connection. Never hurts to clear the cache.

guess it's time to try the delete cookies\cache option first.. time to play cookie monster..

Can some one help me merge some profiles of a user who has an abandoned tree (the system can't find a replacement).

The user is Edna Lehmann

I have some merge requests with her tree that I just made today.

@Constance of Castile, Duchess consort of Lancaster and wife of John of Gaunt.

There appears to be two Geni profiles for this person--the 2nd profile is under the name Constanza de Castilla. Both profiles show the same paternal line, but different mothers: The "Constance of Castile" profile shows María de Padilla as the mother, and the "Constanza de Castilla" profile names Isabel de Castro as the mother of Constanza.

Constance/Constanza is the 2nd wife of John of Gaunt, my 16th grandfather, and she is also my 6th cousin 15 times removed through my great grandfather Fernando III, King of Seville and León, so I have a personal interest--as many others do--in getting this conflict resolved. Then, perhaps, the 2 profiles can be merged?

The manager and curator of the "Constanza de Castilla" profile is shown to be on hiatus.

Steve Jaron you see above the profiles the announcements "No path found to" that means that the profile is in an isolated standalone tree and then it doesn't matter that the manager has abandoned the profiles. The policy of Geni is this moment to keep these profiles standalone and not able to merge!
also you can see in dark red with a light red background a window under the mergerequest with the announcement "these profiles are in different trees" what is the second warning that nobody outside this familygroup is allowed to merge these profiles.

Fred there is no family group warning
