I have a question regarding the page I received this info from and it leaves me wondering. It lists "William Tucker, JR." and then goes on to say that he was the son of John Tucker. If William was a 'Jr.", wouldn't his father have had to be a "William Tucker Sr."? Perhaps someone can explain this to me. Thanks!

It's legacy from a merge process; the data needed resolving and the "Jr" edited our if the suffix. I have now done so and thank you kindly for the catch.

I am not sure about this particular case but Jr is not always a father-son relationship. Sometimes Jr was given to a nephew named after and uncle or a grandchild named after a grandparent. I've even found some census records that list a Jr just because someone with the same name lives nearby. Just something to keep in mind when finding or looking at suffixes.

It's particularly "fun" when it's three with the same name in a generation ... And the Sr dies, so the Jr becomes the senior and the 3rd becomes the Jr.

I like toponymics (William Tucker of Virginia) most of all. :)

Just read an account of this particular Capt. Tucker having been responsible for the poisoning of 200 Powhatans in 1623. I have no documentation of this, but it was in line with the family of Tatum. The poison was supposedly the work of a Dr. John Potts.. 50 other Indians were also supposedly slaughtered. Since there is no documentation on this article about Tatum and Tucker, it is just a query.. nothing else. We are directly related to this Capt. Tucker.

“1623 May: Captain William Tucker concludes peace negotiations with a Powhatan village by proposing a toast with a drink laced with poison prepared by Dr. John Potts; 200 Powhatans die nstantly and another 50 are slaughtered.”

An infamous incident in American history.

Monday Dec. 3,

That is all there was in this article.
Another section...
