King Edward 1 often called on here "Longshanks" as if it were his surname. "Longshanks" is only an epithet, as he had "long thin legs/shanks, being his shin bone".
Same for King John, often called "Lackland" as if it too were his surname. "Lackland" because he did "lack land".

When I discovered through dna testing and Genealogical research that I was descended from King JohnJohn I "Lackland", King of England is your 26th great grandfather. I was deeply disappointed then I realized that it also meant that I was descended fro Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine which more than made up for John and then I did more thinking and realize that if John had been a more popular king we would never had the Magna Carta which in my humble opinion i more than makes up for what was lacking in John as a king
