Fay Elizabeth Dyer asked via message if someone could explain how Agnes Curtis's nickname went from Sarah to Sarah Howe? Because it's confusing.

So let's start a public discussion on it so that we can clarify on the profile. It also looks like we have a duplicate Unknown Profile of this family, so after it's figured out, we should consider merging.

At a quick glance, and perhaps Erica Howton can confirm, what I expect happened is that there was speculation of a Sarah Agnes Howe repeated in many online trees. But we've decided that her parents (and madien name) were unknown, so we added Sarah Howe to the Alias, since that's how other trees tend to reference her. Again, that's just a guess.

It appears that it started only as Sarah.....then became Sarah Howe..

And Jeff's explanation is as good as any, I guess.

(I understand Mary having nickname of Polly)....but this didn't seem to follow any of the nickname conventions I knew..

I would guess Jeff is correct and somehow there are "records" of a Sarah Howe confused with records of an Agnes (unknown). I also agree with adding the "other name" in the AKA field for search purposes - sometimes I put in "not Sarah Howe."

I've seen a lot of records here the alternate 1st name from a merged record is added as a (false) middle name. If there is a genuine confusion ("her name was Sarah or Agnes") there might be clearer ways to show it.

It seems at 1st look (Wikitree) that the wife of William Curtis (1540-1585) was the Agnes buried on 9 Jul 1585 in Nazing, Essex, England

Would you then recommend removing the Sarah Howe?

Maybe put something in 'about me' to refer to poss 2nd wife?

Or just remove and be done with it.

I don't see many sources that discuss the wife of William Curtis, of Nazeing. Though most appear to have Agnes. Here is a FindAGrave for her and William. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=36262458&...

I've merged the duplicate tree but have not yet merged Unknown Profile into Agnes Curtis.

Perhaps Private User can provide some information on Sarah Howe.
