Can someone work their magic and fix my 7th GG. He is showing up as my 1st Cousin 9 x removed's first husband. The parents are correct and showing as my 8th GG's. Thanks!

Hi! You have just discovered - as we all do fairly early on - that the Geni path-finding algorithm is notoriously erratic.

You could try "walking the path" - working your way up the tree from profile to profile - and see if it self-corrects. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. (You have to do this from *within* the profile, clicking on the link to the next parent.)

You could also try a "reverse link" from your ancestor to your parent (whichever one he is the ancestor of) by opening his profile, clicking on the "push-pin" to set him as the origin of the path you want to find, and then opening your parent's profile. Sometimes that tells you the "true" relationship (but not always).

If that doesn't do it, wait a few days to a week or so and see if it sorts itself out. The program resets itself two or three times a month, as I recall.

When I push pinned from Christine to John lll, the Circle icon, indicating the cache needed refreshing, presented. So i (as a PRO user) pressed it, waited, and then I got:

John Clark, III is Christine Clark Tucker's 7th great grandfather!

So lesson: look for that circle icon. (Looks like two arrows chasing each other)

I always try to keep my data conflicts to a minimum by updating profiles and adding source documents. The most frustrating message to me is " "Your corrections have been sent to ........ for approval." I've found that 9 times out of 10 this data conflict will just stay unattended to.

Hello! More East Texas cousins:

Jonathan Roach early Texas settler, had two wives, both named Mary -- Mary Taylor and Mary Boone. He had 9 children with each wife. The first wife and children were entirely missing -- I put them in. Then I added the missing children of the second wife.

but one of the children of the first wife -- John Bradford Roach -- also appears as a child of the second wife (as his birth date is 1819, you can see that he can't possibly be the child of the second wife, who was born in 1816)

Here is the duplicate profile: John Bradford Roach -- as you can see, the "About" section correctly identifies the true mother, but he's been attached to the wrong one.

Could we please detach John Bradford Roach from the second set of parents (Mary Boone is the WRONG mother) and then merge him with himself, over under the correct parents (Mary Taylor is the CORRECT mother)?

Samuel Clark, who is correctly showing as my 5th GG, had two sons and my father's father descends from his son Comfort and my father's mother descends from his son Jonathan.

So Ambrose Clark is showing as my 2nd cousin 8 x removed, but he should be my 6th GG.

I have been trying to undo some conflated families, but am left with a few cases where there are either multiple or wrong parents, and I get a message saying I'll split the tree when I try to fix these. The following are the cases needing attention:

Will Morris - the correct parents are George Morris and Sophia Chowne. The other parents (Ambrose & Harriet) are no relation at all. The "Confirmed matches" for this profile also need to be removed.

Nan Morris - the parents showing are no relation and Nan should not be in that family.

George Day Morris - the parents for this person probably should be Ambrose and Harriett - he is not George & Sophia's child.

Perhaps the manager who inserted the matches, Margaret Ann Harrison, can remove them.

So sorry! I have contacted the other manager. I had misread the date of entry for the profile; obviously the manager is active.

So we should be able to fix this on our own, releasing curator time!

Just as it requires that one be a co-manager to confirm Smart/Record Matches, it also requires the same 'privilege' to remove them.

To remove:
-- select the offending "...Match" and click the 'View Record'.
-- on the resulting page, there should be an "un-confirm" link (e.g. near the bottom).
-- once it is "un-confirmed", there should then be the two choices to "Confirm" (again) or to "reject" (smaller link, not a button).

Again, that only works if one can confirm a Smart/RecordMatch for that profile.
