Cornelis Gerritsz van Niekerk, SV/PROG, is NOT the Father of Barent Newkirk (Van Nieuwkirk) (my 6th Great Grandfather).
Barent's father's name is Cornelis Gerretse van Nieuwkirk, second child of Gerret Cornelisse van Nieuwkirk and Chieltje Cornelissen Slecht, and was born on Long Island circa 1662. In 1686-1687 he was a private in the Kingston Troop of HOrse under Captain Hendrickus Beekman. See "report of the State Historian of New York, Colonial Series, " Volume II page 448. He died at Hurley, Ulster County, New York between February 7th and March 4th 1695/96. The dates of the execution of his will. Not the person that is in South Africa as stated here. The SV/PROG Newkirk is also not married to Jannetje Jansz Van Nieukirk (Kunst).
Cornelis Gerretse van Nieuwkirk (my7th Great Grandfather) married his wife Jannetje Jansz Van Nieukirk (Kunst) 16 Sep 1683 • Kingston, Ulster, New York, United States. All this is documented. She died 2 AUG 1729 • Hurley, Ulster, New York, United States. NOT in South Africa.
Not sure where this South African connection came from but it's NOT Cornelis Gerretse van Nieuwkirk. His children were born in Ulster County, NY, USA
So how on earth can Gerret Cornelisse Van Newkirk (Van Nieuwkirk), who supposed to be the Newkirk's SR/PROG's father, who married in New York in 1661 • Long Island City, Queens, New York, United States, Have Cornelis Gerritsz van Niekerk, SV/PROG, who was born in 1667 Nijkerk, Nijkerk, Gelderland, The Netherlands,
When the real Cornelis Gerretse van Nieuwkirk, the Father of Barent, was born in Ulster, New York. This is a fact and proven.
Now I'm sure there was a Cornelis Gerritsz van Niekerk, SV/PROG that was born in 1667 Nijkerk, Nijkerk, Gelderland, The Netherlands. But it is indeed NOT the same person. Hard to have offspring in New York when you're in South Africa.
Until recently they were on here as brothers. In all the books I have (4 of them) on my line it doesn't show them to be brothers. Related I'm sure but not in the way it's listed here. But this should be fixed. Would post photo's of the book pages here if I coudl to show all.
This is a bad merge and needs to be fixed.
Was NOT in South Africa and not the same person.
Barent Newkirk was born October 13, 1689
Kingston, Ulster, New York, United States
Death: February 18, 1765 (75)
Martinsburg, Berkley, Virginia, United States
I know this because I've joined many societies and one a Holland society of New York. Barent's Grandfther came over on The passenger list of the Moseman, 25 April 1659, contained the entry: "Gerrit Corn van Niew-kerk, and Wife and boy and sucking child." The boy was his brother Mattheus, aged about 12 years. Following a custom, somewhat common in Holland families after arrival in New Netherland, the brothers were more or less known as Gerret (or Gerrit) Cornelisse and Mattheeus Cornelisse. the children of the elder brother, Gerrit, appear in official records of Ulster County and those of the Kingston Dutch Church as van Nieukirk and Niuwkirck, or Nieuwkerck, without the van prefix.
Those of the younger brother, Mattheus, adhered to the prefix and are on official and church records of Bergen County, New Jersey, as van Nieuwkirk or van Nieuwkerck.
So was NOT in Holland to have a son in 1667 that went to South Africa.
This is sourced.

Help @Erica "the Disconnectrix" Howton
the SV/ Prog has been disconnected as son of Gerret Cornelisse Van Newkirk (Van Nieuwkirk) emigrant to the New Netherlands Colony in the Americas.
It seems unlikely they are the same person. If there is evidence otherwise, please advise.
Just disconnected again. Bad information and bad merge. Gerret Cornelisse Van Newkirk (Van Nieuwkirk) nevr had a child in Holland in 1667 as he was already in America by that time.
Also his daughter Neeltje Gerretsse Schepmoes (Van Nieuwkirk), was born in 1667 in Bergen, New Jersey, United States. Where there is plenty of vetted records that proves this.
Gerret Cornelisse Van Newkirk (Van Nieuwkirk) wife, Chieltje Cornelissen Van Nieuwkirk, could not be pregnant with 2 different babies at the same time and deliver one in New Jersey and one in Holland.
Cornelis Gerritsz van Niekerk, SV/PROG parents are not known at this time.
Disconnected AGAIN. Someone posted their Y-DNA results and it shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that this Newkirk is NOT the son of Garrett . Garrett's Y-DNA is R-M269. This profile has a totally different Y-DNA.
Please stop merging as it is impossible to have 2 different Y DNA results. Dozens of USA Newkirks have taken the Y-DNA test.
Erica Howton I suppose you have corrected it already as I don't see any NN profiles.
I am quite happy with changes made outside South Africa and agree with you guys here.
