Only documented wife is Catherine Marie Stump. Another "wife" (Maria Elizabeth Cooper Brake (Keifer) has the same name as his mother, and the third (Naddie Brake (Nyeswanan) has dates taht don't support her having children in the 1790s.

Maven, Jacob BRAKE b. c 1720 GERMANY d. 1808 Moorehead, Hardy Co., WV was m. twice. 1st to Maria Elizabetha KEIFER later became COOPER. She was b. 1730 GERMANY and d. 1765 when the family was attacked by Shawnee Indians at their home. She as well as a small child are buried across the road from the cabin Jacob built in 1767. In 1775, Jacob m. 2nd Catherine STUMP b. 1741 d. 1816. They had only 1 child, a son named Michael b. 1779. The children of Jacob and Elizabeth Cooper BRAKE were Magdalena b. 1751, Jacob, Jr. 1753, John 1754, Elizabeth 1757, Isaac 1760 (my ancestor) and Abram 1763. This has all been well documented and I have DNA proof of my descent from Jacob, Sr. The children you have named in your tree are not ones that I have heard of before. I have been to the cabin and small family cemetery in Moorehead. The cabin has the date it was built carved into the hearth stone at the fireplace and a small stream from a spring running next to the cabins they had fresh water. Let me know if I can help. Jacob and Elizabeth were my 5th grandparents. Melinda Larson

Some confusion may arise as Maria Elizabetha Brake is apparently also a first cousin to John Jacob Brake, II.

Melinda Lou: The current children of Elizabeth (Maria Elizabetha Brake) seem to differ primarily in the son named Jacob -- that current Geni profile has a birth date of 1747, not 1753 (and would more accurately be Jacob III). Can you check the information in the "About" of Lt. Johann Jacob Brake, Revolutionary War veteran to see if it is / should be the same Jacob you are referring to -- or if it should be disconnected from that family and you create a new Jacob from your information?
