The early generations of the Stourton family have become muddled and erroneous. This has come to my attention from a discussion on Wikitree which has a similar problem with the Stourton family.
The errors are partly due to a problematic College of Arms pedigree for Stourton published by Hoare in 1822 and used by Collins in his Peerage of England publications as early as 1768. These errors were repeated by him and others in later publications and do not match contemporary documents. Additional duplicate generations have also crept in.
I will be doing a major clean up of the family and will be using contemporary documents where possible and following The Complete Peerage, 2nd ed., vol. 12, part 1 which has the most accurate family tree for the Stourton's and is based on contemporary documents.
I will be merging John Stourton, Lord de Stourton and John Stourton, Lord de Stourton who are listed as father and son but are the same person. Erica Howton or Private User can one of you remove yourself as the curator so they can be merged. Thanks.
Jane de Stourton and Catherine de Beaumont were not wives of John Stourton, Lord de Stourton. They have come from the erroneous College of Arms pedigree. His correct wives were Lettice Stourton and Alice de Stourton. There is a contemporary Wells manuscript which confirms their first names. Their surnames are unknown.
John is showing as my 21st great grandfather, I will check Links at the emigrant generation.
I was also thinking we may want to archive as a text document attached to profile the current “overview” so you can do a more accurate biography. Let me know if I should do that: I can perhaps organize the “live Links” that may be useful into a reference list for the bottom of the “about.”
John Stourton, Lord de Stourton Cleaned up into a reference list.
Not sure how to work with the data dump in John Stourton, Lord de Stourton - the formatting would break as an attached text doc, and I’m not able to so easily create PDF’s.
Done. https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000104566877971
The text can be copied if anything needs to be retrieved and hyperlinks work.
Richard Sturgeon has been confused with someone named Richard Sturgeon.
Richard Sturgeon was merged into Richard Stourton by Kathy Joan Ross.

These two need to be separated out again.
