Hello,

I am starting this discussion because we appear to have a discrepancies about the parentage of Thomas Forrest and some of the other members of his family here on the Geni tree.

One tree has Robert Forrest and Agnes Forrest, while a second version adds another generation between Thomas and Robert, with Sir Myles Forrest, III and his wife Isabella Forrest.

I was wondering if anyone had any insights on what the correct parentage of Thomas. Is there any documentation behind the connection to his parents?

Also, Thomas has two wives, Elizabeth Forrest and Mistress Margaret Forrest. Colonial Families of Maryland: Bound and Determined to Succeed by Robert William Barnes mentions that Margaret is thought to be his wife and makes no mention of an Elizabeth. https://books.google.com/books?id=Zg9ScOKWei8C&pg=PA86&lpg=...

Furthermore, Thomas' son, Peter Forrest, likewise has two wives, N.N. Forrest, daughter of Samuel Ironmonger of Shaw, Gent. and Anna Iremonger, and Eleanor Ironmonger, daughter of Samuel Iremonger II, of Donnington, Gent. and Bridget Iremonger.

Which of these wives for Peter are correct? Michael Hofemann, citing research on the Ironmonger family by Elizabeth Hogg Ironmonger, claims that the Elizabeth daughters of both Samuel Ironmonger Sr and Jr both stayed in England and married there. https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/forrest/1166/

From what I have read most of this Forest family seems highly speculative, does anyone know of any reliable sources that might help us sort out the family tree?

I’ll take a look at the Ironmonger side.

And I would follow the notes made in https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/forrest/1166/

Reed, Paul C., "Royal Descent of Bernard, Corderoy & Ironmonger of Va.," The American Genealogist, October 1998, p. 294-311

Is cited by this tree:

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~jvoran/genealogy/George_family/PS01/...

And also:

License granted by the Bishop of Salisbury to Samuel Iremonger of Doonington, County berkshire, gentleman, age 21, and Bridget Corderoy of Chute, County Wiltshire, aged 24. Jasper Mompesson of Chute was the bondsman.

Thomas had two wives and quit following me Tamas

I’d like to finish my own work since I was working on that and it is my family. Don’t you have one of your own Tamas. I blocked you for a reason go find someone else’s ancestory to meddle in Erica is here. Your not needed

I found a good Ironmonger in England study and recommend we follow it, it’s well cited with Will data.

https://gw.geneanet.org/mothrgoose?lang=en&n=ironmonger&p=w...

N.N. Forrest was not the daughter of Samuel Iremonger & Anna Lawson. he named Elizabeth, wife of Anthony Evernden, as a child in his 1643 will.

Ancestry.com. British Roots of Maryland Families [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2006. Original data: Barnes, Robert W. British Roots of Maryland Families. Baltimore, MD, USA: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2002. no wife named for Peter Forrest:

https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000114041383831&

Ancestry.com does name “Elizabeth” as the wife of the wife of Peter Forrest and mother of John.

Hope this helps.

Erica Howton Yay! Thank you very much!

The Ironmongers are looking better!

I have a question about Corderoy Ironmonger, who married Mary Gallant. Wikitree lists him as a son of Samuel Iremonger II, of Donnington, Gent. and Bridget Iremonger.
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ironmonger-45

But on Geni he is the son of William Ironmonger and grandson of Samuel Iremonger of Donnington, as shown here: https://www.colonial-settlers-md-va.us/getperson.php?personID=I0258... and https://books.google.com/books?id=f2RHAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA24&lpg=...

Maybe they both had sons named Corderoy? It is possible, but which one of them married Mary Gallant ?

Erica Howton The British birth record you linked in Peter Forrest's about section is unfortunately from 1834, so I think it's the wrong Forrest family. https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?viewrecord=1&r=an&a...

John Jones, of Northumberland has also made his way into the Ironmonger tree, as the brother of Elizabeth Ironmonger, wife of William Ironmonger. Is he in the right place?

Private User >>"Thomas had two wives"
Do you have a source for that which you could share? How about for the earlier generations?

Yes, the Ironmonger’s are still displaced. Can you add your citations to profiles?

Corderoy son of Samuel & Bridget died unmarried and intestate in Virginia:

“In this Magazine XI, 75, 76, - 'this' magazine not identified - are the administrations granted 1681 to Elizabeth (Iremonger) wife of Anthony Evenden, on the estates of her sisters Martha (Iremonger) wife of John Jones, and Ann (Iremonger) Rumney, and her brother Corderoy Ironmonger, all of whom had died intestate in Virginia.]

Excuse me, Corderoy did marry:

Corderoy Iremonger (Ironmonger) was the fourth son born to Samuel Iremonger and his wife Bridget Cordray. He immigrated to Northumberland county, Virginia "before 1666, where he purchased 400 acres of land." He married Mary, widow of Abraham Field[1] (m between June and August 1674).[2]

Corderoy and Mary had no children.[1]

Corderoy Ironmonger died "intestate in Virginia...shortly before 5 June 1675 (date of his inventory). His widow Mary married (3rd) before 26 Sept. 1677 ____ Gallant."[1]

The Jones are a difficult skein to unravel. Robert Jones, of Fleet's Bay Is sometimes seen as brother of Elizabeth (Jones) Ironmonger & John Jones; Geni tree currently shows him rather as brother of John Jones, of Isle of Wight

Which doesn’t really make sense so I’m cutting that connection.

I’ve moved him as the probable brother of Elizabeth Ironmonger

Another mystery is who is this person?

unknown Major

She’s not the same person as Elizabeth Evernden but she’s of the same generation. That she was an Ironmonger has a valid source reference:

https://archive.org/stream/majorstheirmarri00cabe#page/n63/mode/1up

It makes me think she was a widow Ironmonger.

Descendants of Mordecai Cooke: Of "Mordecai's Mount", Gloucester Co., Va ... By William Carter Stubbs. Page 25. [https://books.google.com/books?id=f2RHAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA24&lpg=... GoogleBooks]

“Another daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Ironmonger married George Major. In the Ludwell MSS. is mentioned a suit in General Court, 1722, between John Collier an infant by John Collier his father, and also Richard, James, Samuel, George and Francis Major, by George Major their father, vs. William Bernard and wife Elizabeth, late Elizabeth Ironmonger executrix of Francis Ironmonger.”

So maybe unknown Major is daughter of Francis.

Thomas Forrest, Esq. Is in better shape. I don’t think Peter Forrest was the child of Mistress Margaret Forrest though; dates don’t work.

She’s in this picture somewhere! Can anyone find her in it? I would think it’s public domain.

Hi all (if people are still there)
I am trying to find the proof that Thomas Forrest is from the Morborne family.
I have written out everything I know here:
https://humphrysfamilytree.com/Forrest/contents.html

With Thomas Forrest's alleged connection here:
https://humphrysfamilytree.com/Forrest/robert.html

I cannot see the proof he is from the Morborne family.
There are claims about his baptism but I have not seen his baptism, either as an image or as a transcript.
Can anyone point me to the evidence he is connected to the Morborne family at all?
Thanks
