The parents need to be sorted and documented as to why which ones are correct. The same-name people have different parents, so they're unlikely to actually be the same people. I'm only distantly related, not a descendant, so I don't know the lines well enough to fix them but have explored the Fugate lines enough to know how much confusion exists on them. As these connections stand, I can't determine which pathway to follow for correct kinships. Thanks.

The Curator Note on Josiah-son-of-James reminds me that at that time I could not find any evidence to resolve if they were one person with conflicting theories on parents, or two people with dates & locations cross-mingled.

Since they are currently two profiles, I (for now) added the "son of XX" to help keep them separate in discussions & when working on them.

I also (as a starting point) separated the Mary-of John-II from the Josiah-of-James to at least see how that might help "shake out" children ... and added "-II" to her birth surname to help keep them distinct for now.

... but I'm not researching anything else at the moment, so y'all can help with the investigating.

Of the children that (at first glance) seem to be "in dispute" as to where they properly connect, this is one I saw:
Martin Fugate, of Russell Co., VA

Martin Fugate died very poor left a dress suite, Razor strap, and a Sang Hoe use for digging roots from small shrubs sold to make medicines. It is probable that he never owned land. Martin B 1727 King George County VA D about 1808 In Russell, County, VA. He had for sure 4 sons Francis, Henley, Zachariah and Colbert. In addition Benjamin and William all residing in his household in Moccasin Creek are probably his sons Since my Y DNA is a 0 match for Colbert and Martin and my line come from William I am sure William is his son. Martin may also have had a daughter Ann who married Samuel Haddix of Moccasin Creek. The Indians killed a possible second daughter, married to James McCarty in 1788. It is not known for sure who martin's wife was. Martin's children Unknown wife are; Francis B 1752 D Sep 13 1781, he was thrown from a horse and died, Married M Nancy Agnes Vance1770. Nancy Ann B 1754 D Frederick Co. VA D 1823 Clay, Co. KY. Benjamin B about 1755 Russell, Co. VA D 1837 Troublesome Creek, KY. Henley B about 1761 Fairfax Co. VA D Bef. Aug 1838. Zachariah B 1763 Frederick Co. VA D about 1838 Russell Co. VA. William B bef. 1756 Frederick Co. VA D about 1808 Russell Co. VA. Colbert B 1766 Frederick Co. VA D August 1819 Russell Co. VA, Married (1) Hannah Tate she was B abt,1775 VA (2) Kathern Porter Abt. 1790, VA.

This is line. Patawomeck Indians of Virginia approved.
Josias, Martin, Francis, George, Elijah, James Monroe, Floyd Bo, Fanny Fugate my great grandmother she married a Howard

@james Welch, do you have any sources for the approved Patawomeck approved line. Every time I attempt that line from josias and mary, I hit a road block.

Much appreciated,
Gail Wells

Through thele Patawomeck Indians of Virginia oral history from their historian .

Hey, Private User -

I just this evening discovered a DNA matched cousin on Ancestry. Says we're 5th-8th cousins. We only share 1 segment, but its 10cm. Anyway, comparing our Ethnicity results, he and I share Indigenous Americas - North.

He's one of those matches that doesn't show our common ancestor but fortunately he had enough info visible in his tree I could easily figure it out. We're 8th cousins 1x removed on the Fugate line.

So, if we share Native American DNA from the Fugate line that goes back to the common ancestors of Peter who immigrated to America and his wife Martha Moulds, the indigenous DNA would have had to come from Martha's side.

Do you or anyone else know about any NA on her lines?

Thanks for any info.

That Fugate line NA could, also, come from tge Martin side. Mary Martin that goes to the Pettus lint to Patawomeck

My DNA match is from the line of Capt. Josias Fugate and his wife Mary Martin. I'm from the line of Josias' sister Ann Fugate who married Robert Jarratt II.

I think his parents, some say was james Fugate and Dorothy Pettus

Awsome, ever researched his sister. But line is allowed in thrle Patawomack tribe of Virginia if his sister is listed in the history

Josias is a brother to my direct ancestor, Ann (Fugate) Jarratt. Back in July my Ann's line was cut so I'm no longer connected on Geni to my Fugate ancestry, but I just opened a discussion about that because the DNA evidence is that I'm definitely a Fugate descendant and I'd like to have my lines reconnected.

Anyway, the only way the descendant of Josias and I share DNA is through parents Peter who came to America and his wife Frances Mould. Josias is my ancestral uncle, not my direct. So the shared NA DNA in my match would seemingly have to come from Frances (Mould) Fugate. I'm not blood-related to Mary Martin. She married my ancestral uncle is my only connection to her. So that's not where this DNA match and I have NA DNA in common.

This is the Josias I'm talking about. Parents aren't listed as James and Dorothy (Pettus) Fugate

Capt. Josias Fugate

This is the Josias, son of James. Thank goodness someone tagged them 'son of Peter' and 'son of James' because folks kept getting them mixed up.

Captain Josiah Fugate, son of James

Yeah, those two Josiah Fugate branches (with various spellings) were snarled for a long time, and so many others have mixed their families with respect to their parents. I'm sure their respective children's branches have been cross-tangled as well, and it'll take a combination of DNA and records to get the descendants properly sorted out.
