This Joseph Bates Jr. did not die November 03, 1714. His grandson, Joseph "IV" did. Here is a link to Joseph "IV"'s birth & death records, entries 5 & 13:

Joseph Jr.'s probate started the 18th of August, 1713. The probate of his estate could not occur 16 months BEFORE he died. Here is a direct link to Joseph Jr.'s probate records:

This also means that Joseph "IV", the 6th of May, 1714, could not be the Joseph who ended up in Abingdon, Virginia.
