This has been mentioned before as an add-on to the discussion of 2021, but since nothing substantive has been presented, I'll ask one more time.

I am requesting a source for the father being Rabbi Avraham ben Zalman Magid, brother GRA

Otser HaRabanim lists four sons of Rabbi Avraham ben Zalman Magid, brother GRA 1) Eliahu ABD Neustadt # 2226, 2) Shmuel ABD Shat # 19386, 3) Gershon rav in Shadova # 4441, and 4) Moshe ABD Keidan # 803. There is no Yehuda Aryeh Leib listed as a son of Rabbi Avraham ben Zalman Magid, brother GRA in Otser HaRabanim (Friedman, Tel-Aviv, 1973)

Nor do I believe is this connection mentioned in Chaim Freedmans's book.

So, is it real or imaginary?

I am not asking for a discussion and am not going to involve myself any further than this request. I am only asking that if someone has a good source for the connection, would they please post the specifics here. By good I mean something other than an unsourced family tree.

Thanks, and great summer!

There is a JewishGen Revision List [Revizskaya Skazka] of my 4th ggf, Rav David Maggid born 1770, my 5th ggf, Rav Iudel Maggid, and Rav Avraham "Ragoler" Maggid living together. It was translated and uploaded c. 2012. HaGRA's brother Avraham was born [by memory] 1724. I doubt he was old enough to be my 6th ggf. It seems more likely that HaGRA's son Avraham is the Avraham that lived with my 4th & 5th ggf's. My grandfather stated and wrote that his father descended from HaGRA, and his mother [nee Klatzkin] descended from HaGRA's brother, Tsuf Davash. My Maggid cousins descended from Hillel Noach "Steinshneider" Maggid & Prof David Maggid showed a handwritten chart confirming this. Not clear who created, nor when. DNA would be useful. Rivlin tests have the same Y Haplogroup as mine. Better to write to my email: gematria58@hotmail.com Thanks! Ezra

Ezra Zalman MAGID Thanks for the refresher. Yes, indeed it would be helpful if some of the families would participate in the dna-based investigation. For purposes of this discussion it seems we both agree that the father-son connection shown now on GENI between R' Judah Aryey Leib Maggid of Vilna and Rabbi Avraham ben Zalman Magid, brother GRA is dubious and should be severed, so as not to appear as fact. A note can be placed on both profiles stating that some have speculated, on the basis of a Revision List, they are father and son, but as of yet this cannot be verified. I'll follow via email.
