Geni frowns on purposely creating duplicates. But it also frowns mightily on merging people who are not the same.
A set was created for folks it was variously suspected to believed were duplicates, but they definitely are going by different names.
I think it may be time to look and decide whether we actually have duplicates here.
See https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=photos_of_me&id=6000... -
that is an 1898 Family List for "Gerts Potashchik" and his wife and children.

It seems very likely it is the same as the family of Herbert (Herzl) Bloom ( Herbert (MSB) Bloom ) -
with Herbert (Herzl) Bloom ( Herbert (MSB) Bloom ) = Gerts Potashchik ( Hertz 'Herbert' Bloom )

His oldest child, his son David Walter Bloom ( David Walter (MSB) Bloom ) who was born 1879 per his Death Certificate being David Potashchik ( David W. Bloom ) who is shown as age 18 in 1898 so born about 1880 - so that matches

Then his daughter Sarah (Bloom) Cohen ( Sarah Tserna Cohen ) who is 20 on her 1904 Marriage Record, born Dec. 5, 1884 on her Gravestone would be Sora Tserna Potashchik ( Sarah Tserna Cohen ) listed as 17 in 1898

His daughter, currently showing to me as <private> (Bloom) Siegel ( Mary "Merka" (MSB) Siegel ) would be Mere. Potashchik ( Mere 'Mary' Siegel )

His daughter Lillian (Lilly) (Bloom) Drosd ( Lilly (MSB) Drosd ) would be Libe Potashchik ( Lillian Libe Drosd )

And his last wife, Rose (Potastik) Bloom ( Rokhe 'Rose' Feige Potashchik / Bloom ) would be the wife listed on the 1898 Family List, Rokhe Feige Potashchik ( Rokhe 'Rose' Feige Potashchik / Bloom )

At first glance, this may seem very unlikely to many given the big difference between the surnames Potashchik and Bloom

However, Civil Marriages were expensive, so often Jews did the Religious Marriage but not the Civil - in which case the children officially went by the Mother's Birth Surname there unless and until the Parents got married, as is explained in this article: https://bloodandfrogs.com/2011/01/religious-marriages-civil-marriag...

And Geni shows the Birth Surname of Herbert's last wife, Rose, as Potastik.

Also, there is a record that might be Lillian's = Libe's Birth --
--On JewishGen / LitVak Sig Lithuania Births -- A MAYBE
POTASHCHIK, Libe -- dob: 26 - Dec - 1887 - 23 Tevet -- Father, Father's Father: Gerts, Mordkhel -- Mother, Mother's Father: Rokhe Feige , David Vulf -- place: Vilijampole / Kaunas / Kaunas - see link to original record here: https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=photos_of_me&id=6000...

That actually leaves me wondering if David Walter Bloom's mother might have been Frieda = Feiga = Rokha Feiga daughter of David Vulf

Herbert Bloom had been showing three wives! David, Mary and Sarah/Lilian were different of mothers!

Mary and Sarah are related to Rose Potashchik by other my DNA cousin. David is related to Freida Kam by other my cousin's DNA matches.. Lilian is related to other wive by no DNA matches

If the Potashchik family is the same as the Bloom family
and the ages are correct or basically so, then Mary is slightly younger than Sarah, and Lilian is a good bit younger than Mary.

Does this suggest that Mary shares a mother with Sarah rather than with Lilian?

Hatte Rubenstein Blejer - Any chance you are willing to look at these and see if
A) you disagree, and definitely different families
B) you agree they are the same families and will merge the respective profiles
Or
C) you agree they are the same people or are probably the same, but feel should not be merged (either because not certain or because of objections from a descendant that you think should be honored) and should just have references with links in their overviews?
Or??

I know you are a Curator who is familiar with these sorts of records, can read the ones in Hebrew and Russian as well as English, so think would be a very good choice to evaluate the Documentation.
I know you also have a good understanding of DNA analysis so may possibly be able to understand and evaluate DNA evidence such as what the poster above is seeing.

Private User - I'll see if I have time next week. I am leading a large group visit to Poland and a new sign in the cemetery we have been restoring, so I'm very short of time until September.

No Potaschchik/Bloom family is the same as the Kamm family.

Rafael Kamm's daughters
Freida 1855-1925
Rose Potaschik 1862-1931

David 1879 - 1956 Mom - Freida
Mary 1883-1976 Mom - Rose
Sarah 1885 - 1965 Mom - Rose
Lillian 1892 -1964 Mom - unknown. NO DNA matches!

Private User -

Let's wait till Hatte Rubenstein Blejer is able to take a look at the Documentation and find out what she wants to know in order to be able to evaluate the DNA evidence.

There are lots of Curators I have no familiarity with. Of those I am familiar with, Hatte always gives consideration to family members, is great at research in this area, and is great at interpreting DNA evidence.

If we do not wait for her, I fear it will just be you and I arguing past each other, neither of us understanding the other.
For example, I see on Lillian's Social Security Application that her Mother is Rose and I see on a Marriage Record that I believe is for this Sarah that her mother is Bessie Kaplan. I see those as being very meaningful.
I think you are looking at DNA matches and Trees your DNA matches appear on, plus one or more Trees you have created, and see something you consider very meaningful there.

I am certainly no expert on DNA so I won't venture there but there is one bit of info I can provide. My mom (Sarah Bloom's daughter) wrote a memory in which she mentioned a her mother's cousins - Rosie and Frank Rosenthal. She listed their 5 kids and how they married and census records showed she was spot on (and knowing my mom, I have no doubt about her memory). The interesting data point is that Sarah's mother is listed as Bessie Kaplan in the marriage record (to my grandfather). Meanwhile, Rosie's marriage record lists her mother as Mary Kaplan. It's not much of a stretch to guess that Mary and Bessie were sister's, which would make Rosie and my grandmother first cousins as my mother described. My mom mentioned several other names in these notes, but couldn't remember the last names and I have yet to successfully find them, but they were other cousins.

Mitchell - I am DNA related to Lillian's granddaughter, who I found on 23 and Me..

also - straight copy for Rudolph Drosd book:

"We knew little about my mother's (Lillian) family until we visited her elder sister Mary in New York City during the summer of 1924, when I (Rudolph) was eleven. Kaunas, known as Knovo, Lituania, was my mother's birthplace. Her father, Herbert Bloom, had three wives and a family by each."

I haven't found the name Potaschik in the book. But Lillian was the youngest.

There is much more - I suggest you get the book, "A Doctor's Journey", by Rudolph Drosd.

Mitchell, could you please lift the privacy of the dead relatives.

Golda

Also - According to the book - David, Mary and Sarah traveled together to the US. Lillian came later.

Golda Rose Levy Burke -

Does the Book say anything else about any of the wives?

Is 23&Me the only site you have DNA results at?

Lillian's granddaughter would also be a granddaughter of her husband Majer Drozd
Majer Drozd is the son of Louis (Zelek) (Drust) Drozd -
So the granddaughter of Lillian would be the great granddaughter of Louis
Golda, you are the great granddaughter of Louis' brother Jankiel (Jacob) (Drozd) Drust (per Geni and Documentation)
So you are 3rd cousin to Lillian's granddaughter - nice to hear you also share DNA with her.
Is that one of Rudolph's daughters?

@Lois Lubin - Unfortunately, no more info in the book. He even says that Lillian, being the youngest didn't have much info. Lots about Lillian's sister's families.

I also uploaded to Gedmatch, but I don't look at that often.

Yes, Jankel (Jacob) is my GGF.

I messed up - I am DNA related to Linda Levi Drosd who is another cousin - not Rudy's daughter. She is Nusen's granddaughter. I have communicated with Judy Drosd (Rudy's daughter) and we have compared notes.

The Drosd....line has been well researched by Barbara Rubinstein.

Golda - I have on 23andme. I did not see your name on 23andMe.

David, Mary and Sarah traveled together to the US. NO! David and Herbert traveled together. Rose Siegel was born in 1905 Russia or Vermont? David arrived USA in 1894.

I believe I am not related to Lillian. I see Mary, David & Sarah on 23andMe family tree by other cousins.

I have my GedMatch. I did not see Golda's GedMatch.

Mitchell - maybe we are not related through Lillian. But that blows the idea that all four are related by their father.

Lillian left her father in Lituania.

Who are the related cousins in 23? Bloom or Seigel?

Private User -
I think you accidentally failed to notice -- Golda is blood kin to Lillian's descendants thru Lillian's husband, and father of her children, Majer Drozd.
Nobody is saying Golda is blood kin to Lillian.

Golda Rose Levy Burke -
Do you know, has either of Rudolph's children done any DNA Testing?

Golda - Please check your GedMatch and 23andMe for my name on listing.

I believe they LIED us. I was shocked about my biological grandfather last two years ago.

Usually names are changed before they get on the boat, So we also need to be looking for Bloom family on the ships.

This Discussion was started to look into whether people listed on records in Lithuania with the Surname Potashchik are the same people listed in records in the US with the surname Bloom.

This is of course very relevant to you. However, I think we are getting off-topic.
My first three posts are, I think, the main ones relevant to that question.

I have started a separate discussion for some of the issues you are referring to here: https://www.geni.com/discussions/266086

Does anyone know if Mary was married to Jacob Siegel before coming to America? They both emmigrated to US in 1897. that could be a way to find out.

See https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000179275769024&... for a Copy of what is believed to be the arrival record for Lilly, going to join her brother David - both with surname spelled "Blum"

As for Jacob and Mary:
1)
--In a letter by Rudy Drosd to other family members, including the mother of Steven Albert
who has seen it and shared a copy of it with me:
"Mary married Jake Siegel in Europe -- they lived in New York."
2)
--on JewishGen / Litvak Sig Lithuania Marriages - MAYBE THEM
LIBES, Iankel Bentsel -- Age 26 -- Place: Vilijampole -- Father: Abel
POTOSHCHIK, Mera -- Age 22 -- Place: Vilijampole -- Father: Gerts
Marriage -- on 20 - Apr - 1904 - 18 Iyar 5664 -- in Kaunas / Kaunas / Kaunas
--- That this is they depends both on the Siegel family went by Libes before coming to the US, as well as that the Bloom family went by Potashchik before coming to the US

Born November 19, 1879 and died November 2, 1956. Mr. Bloom immigrated to the United States in 1894, arriving in Boston at the age of 15 and with 50 cents in his pocket.

Conflict with 1894 vs 1905

You never mention about your GEDMATCH and 23andME if you see my name?

I see my cousin's DNA matches on Freida Kamm plus other ancestry's DNA matches too. I did not care about marriage. Freida had an affair with Herbert Bloom
