I have info, saved via https://ancestry.com, that Nicholas Gibson, was orphaned when his family was attacked by Indians, and he was the only survivor. The information I found states, that May 8 1790, the court ordered that Nicholas be bound to William Gibson, until Nicholas was 21 years old. It also states, that Nicholas was 13 at that time. This all took place in Virginia. ~ This means that Nicholas was born about 1777; I don't believe he was a Revolutionary Soldier. There may have been some other Nicholas Gibson who was, but not this one. Later, Nicholas moved to Illinois, where he died. ~ Somehow, some family member, I believe, started this story that this Nicholas Gibson, their ancestor, was the son of Col. John Gibson (1740-1822), who was the brother-in-law of Chief Logan. But this is not true. It is documented that this Col. Gibson had only one child, a daughter, Jane, who survived the attack by white men, when her Indian mother and others were killed. See wiki for more on Col. John Gibson.
