From comments at Ancestry.com:

I have info, saved via https://ancestry.com, that Nicholas Gibson, was orphaned when his family was attacked by Indians, and he was the only survivor. The information I found states, that May 8 1790, the court ordered that Nicholas be bound to William Gibson, until Nicholas was 21 years old. It also states, that Nicholas was 13 at that time. This all took place in Virginia. ~ This means that Nicholas was born about 1777; I don't believe he was a Revolutionary Soldier. There may have been some other Nicholas Gibson who was, but not this one. Later, Nicholas moved to Illinois, where he died. ~ Somehow, some family member, I believe, started this story that this Nicholas Gibson, their ancestor, was the son of Col. John Gibson (1740-1822), who was the brother-in-law of Chief Logan. But this is not true. It is documented that this Col. Gibson had only one child, a daughter, Jane, who survived the attack by white men, when her Indian mother and others were killed. See wiki for more on Col. John Gibson.

This is the profile for John Gibson, of Sugar Creek father of Nicholas Gibson, Revolutionary War Veteran

This is the profile for John Gibson, Acting Territorial Governor of Indiana His wife & children were killed in 1774, which is well documented; that massacre led to Lord Dunmore's War; the only surviving child was a daughter, who married Judge George Wallace, Esq.

Martha Lou Pillsbury a descendant of Nicholas, is looking for genealogy help.

Almost all the trees I see show the wrong John Gibson parents, so she needs assistance on how to do original research in West Virginia.

Billie June Keaffaber - you come to mind. Can you steer her to groups like Hackers Creek than may help? The FindAGrave is almost wrong. Even the headstone is disputed belonging to this Nicholas, due to the known dates (when he was kidnapped, when he was returned and apprenticed).

Erica,
I can try I think I put all was found if the stuff mixed up incorrectly I sorry. I do make boo boos. Family search is good place to start. Ancestry can mix up trees badly I found and so easy in West Virginia Virginia to get people mixed up. I not that great on Native American research cause not found records on own families. Local libraries be better place but they might list people as native Americans. The historical stories out there only gives clues Ancestry may have more records but I unable to get in it my subscriptions died when my husband passed away. This why I haven’t done much genealogy. DNA might help I have had dna with Gibson Collin’s and goings which were said to Native American ancestors but not ever found them in dna context on my trees. I try to contact individuals as well to see where they received information from. Truely I don’t know how these books and stories in West Virginia spread. Several book Boarder warfare has stories where information from there was found a lot of researching people are referred to books like that. I have noticed Erica many families in West Virginia carry multiple birthdates for same individuals and even cities could be incorrect entered in trees. It’s basically goes back to what records found putting them with correct people. When I researched my family I physically went to libraries listed for person or mailed them for information. And pieced the puzzle together. Even now I make phone calls or dig at information. I know that not much help. Also try looking at surrounding family members sometimes the siblings children or aunts uncle carry clues for a individual. Information gets passed through families here a lot. There are tons of West Virginia information about cornstock but I not sure the stores will give family information. I will try to help. As much as can but since I don’t have access to much I go by family search records found.
