Almost all of the information here is incorrect. There were two different John Hammon(d) Srs. living in this part of Virginia Colony and both were born in about the same year. A researcher in the early 2000's thought that this John Hammon, Sr. and another John Hammond, Sr. were the same individual and therefore commingled the two families into one. Separate families was proven by DNA testing. A couple of serious researchers of this John Hammon line knew this long before this individual (not to be named) created this error, but he wouldn't listen until after DNA showed his error. The damage has been done. I have tried many times to get this corrected here on GENI, but it always reappears. This John Hammon, Sr. is the son of Ambrose Hammon and his unknown spouse (it is not Elizabeth King). What also resulted in this commingling was that Ambrose Hammon and Job Hammond were thought to be the same person, since they were born in about the same year, leading to names such as Ambrose Job Hammon and Job Ambrose Hammon, etc. Ambrose and Job are not the same person. The only documented and known child of Ambrose Hammon (c1647-1694) is this John Hammon, Sr. (1685-1758). John Hammon, Sr.'s first wife is unknown. Currently there is no known document or circumstantial evidence as to who she is. It is not Catherine Dobbyns, she belongs to the other, John Hammond, Sr. This John Hammon, Sr.s children are Rev. William Hammon, Ambrose Hammon, James Hammon, and John Hammon, Jr. It is believed that John married a second time (spouse also unknown) and had the following children, Dorothy, Agnes, and Joseph. The younger children are mentioned in his will.
If anyone has an ideas on how to get this fixed permanently, please help.
Rod Hammons (7th great grandson of John Hammon, Sr.)
