Hello all,
Something that Anne Marit did today in a message, pointed me towards a REALLY helpful tip that I just MUST share with you all. It might be obvious but as I haven't seen it used, I thought to post it anyway.
Often people post requests to merge a single manager in a large stack. Because stack indexes (the ?idx=8 part) change every time a merge is resolved (or added), it is pointless to post them, and we then have to search through the whole stack for The One To Merge! Sometimes pointlessly because the merge has already been done.
BUT NOW thanks to Anne Marit, I found a BETTER way to post direct links to specific stack members, which incidentally lets us know whether they have been merged already!
When working your way through your stacks, and you want to request a specific profile to be merged, just click on the link to the profile in the compare view (their full name at the top). This will take you to the compared profile itself. Post THAT link instead. This will ALWAYS point to the profile's place in the stack at the present moment (when you click the 'View her other profiles.' link from THAT profile. If the merge has been done, then you'll be taken to the main profile, and see the green notice "The profile you requested has been merged into this profile." across the top.
By way of example, over in the Merge Group discussion ( http://www.geni.com/discussions/6000000007138855554 ) Anne Marit just posted a link to the following stack:
http://www.geni.com/profile/compare/6000000001041468652
Lets say that she wanted to solve the merge with the profile managed by Robert Walter Conrad, which at this moment is idx=12 (but likely to change any moment). She would instead post the following link
Bethóc ingen Maíl Coluim meic Cináeda
which takes us to the profile, and with one additional click, to it's place in the stack, instead of having to search for it! So much easier.
Thanks Anne Marit. :-D
