Alison FitzGerald (Eustace), Countess of Kildare

The parents of Alison Fitzgerald were Rowland Eustace and Genet Bellew. Please disconnect other parents. Thanks.

Erica Howton in looking at Desire Howland, I found other oddities in that area of the tree that you should look at. There are two John Chipmans and the one you curate is no longer married to Hope Howland.

Mary - I took care of Desire. It's irksome that people don't look when they add a duplicate to a historical tree as an offspring.

Mary - that area of the tree around Alison FitzEustace is a mess. I've done some cleaning up but it's not an area of expertise for me. I'd like to either have a curator who deals with the area work with you or if none is available, I'll work with you to clean up, source and MP these profiles.

Margaret D’Artois appears to be both the mother and the wife of Rowland Eustace for instance. I stopped cleaning up because there is a cycle that needs to be resolved first.

I suspect a private disconnected Tilley tree got merged into the one world tree and that's why we're unable to use the zombie hunting script with any real results, Hatte. In other words, there's a "claimed historical profile" perhaps in the mix there yet to be found.

Meanwhile my workaround is to "remove" a family relationship from the locked profiles so they drift off into the geni ether and no longer show in our single public tree. This takes time to do ... work in progress for me. But the Tilley / Howlands should be looking better already.

Hatte, You are directly related to 3 of my grandkids. John Howland and Elizabeth TIlley are their 10th great-grandparents thru their other grandmother.

Is that (Tilley/Howlands) similar to my problem with the Avery's? I'm still fairly new with some of this stuff.

Ephraim Woodworth Avery

I inherited a group of profiles and this is the first section of them that I have run into a real roadblock like this. I also have a screen shot of the partners and children where there are locked duplicates. I've been ignoring them since I have other things to do on here, but it is annoying!

Pamela - similar but different because the area around Ephraim Avery are still within the recent past and therefore can be private and claimed profiles. In this case, neither Geni nor the volunteer curators can do anything I believe, assuming that there are still family members who are active and closely related to these profiles.

You will need to email the managers and ask them to collaborate with you.

Someone else (?Erica) should also take a look and add anything I've missed.

Erica - I'm glad you are working on the Tilleys but I still don't understand how a historical profile from the 1600s can be claimed and not public. Your workaround is fine as long as no one remerges them...

Hello... What can we do about this small problem. Any thoughts, Angus?

James Crocker, Sr.

Please detach as son of Jonathan Bosworth and Hannah Bosworth (Howland). .Her was married to their granddaughter.

Mary , detached

The Botelers William le Boteler, 1st Baron Boteler and surrounding areas are quite messed up currently. It will take me some time to untangle and undo some of the issues, so bear with me. If you are familiar with that area and want to point out fixes, that would be great. I had them mostly sorted out but they got messed up again :(

I suspect this is the result of bad merges

There are 14 conflicting data And the birth and death locations are crazy. Nothing in the About section and the birth source doesn't add up. I know nothing about him.

Jane Mendenhall
Could someone please put in a curator note about her parentage being unknown. That fact is at the end of the About section and easy to miss.

Eldon - note placed on Jane.

Eldon - Peter much better, including a cut-and-paste to the About section.

I still have problems with the daughter Rebecca m. Robert Comber. I don't think she belongs to Peter and Elinor.

Janet

Janet, thanks. Peter needs a parents unknown note also. Should I cut him off from the ones shown as parents?

How come you can put a death date in a record anymore? This doesn't make sense. I am the owner of the profile.

David - can you paste the URL (Internet address) of the profile you are talking about into a post please?

If it is a public, historical profile and in the Big Tree, it may be edited by others. I have no idea however what happened since I don't know what profile you are referring to!

Eldon - Yes, go ahead and disconnect him from those parents. i had no idea what was happening there. I'll come back later tonight and add a parents unknown curator note.

Happy to help...

Janet

Jonathan Crocker

Two more locked historical profiles under him, his child and spouse.

Working on Jonathan Crocker -- can't make his son and daughter-in-law public, so I have sent in a help ticket. Mary, they are seriously backed-up on the help desk, so have a little patience and just check on it from time to time, okay?

Maria, That's fine. No hurry. I just report them when I see them.

How do we get Curators to clean their own houses? Their data conflicts go back to the first part of December. It would be nice if they helped clear stacks by just clearing their own Data Conflicts in their Merge Issues

You don't need curator access to resolve data conflicts so I always leave them to the other managers and put priority on doing things that require curator powers.

Remember we are just a few curators and there are over six million users who can do the job they have access to, and we really appreciate the help from others resolving data conflicts, cleaning up About Me's and adding sources.

Another story behind all the data conflicts is that there is used a merge robot running with the login of some curators who have performed over a half million merges without resolving data conflicts.

Virginia, it isn't the curators that create the conflicting data.
It is the users (you and I) who put profiles into the tree with different data.
When a curator merge these (same but different) profiles, the conflicts surface.

Cheers

Actually when anyone merges profiles (not just curators), the conflicts surface. And as Bjorn said, managers don't need curators to resolve the data conflicts. However, I personally, am careful when I don't know the language/culture/particular family to either do research or request help or leave the resolution to someone who knows the family better than I do.

A rule of thumb that is not always perfect is to choose the left most data. I saw a case today where it was not the right choice.

I am careful that if I don't know the particulars, to only choose "correct" data that either has the proper spellings (i.e. Martha rather than Marhta when only one is spelled Marhta) or the locations identified accurately (i.e. Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA rather than Chicago, IL) or valid names not display names (first name doesn't include terms like "notorious pirate" or "witch"). Any discrepancies in dates etc I leave as a conflict for someone with more knowledge to work on.

What do we do if we can't add on to a section of our tree? I have parts where I have documentation of relative but am denied access. How do I get things added and merged. These show up in my tree just not a direct line. Usually a sibling. If I find the family in a source, especially in the native country, I add all the siblings not just the one connected to me. Sometimes it wont let me add or I can't make the merge I need. Do you have any suggestions?:

@shari Jo Bruce, have you tried 'request management? of profiles in your tree that have been added already by someone else? OR
Try contact manager and suggest you may be related through this person and that you have documentation you would like to add.
