About Agnes Quarles

  • Agnes Greenway married on the 16th July 1539 at St Lawrence Jewry, London to John Holland [generally spelt HOWLAND] of St Mary Moses. No indication of her age or parents are given in this record.
  • Agnes & John HOWLAND, Salter & Citizen of London have a large family including Richard, John , Giles, two sons named William, James & Nicholas [from the 1568 will of John Howland]
  • John HOWLAND wrote his will in 1568, referring to his wife Agnes. He was buried on the 24th March 1569/70 at St Margaret Moses, Little Friday street, London, Middlesex, England. His will was proved 28th July 1570.
  • Agnes married to John Quarles as his third wife on the 7th August 1571 at St Peter Le Poer, London, Middlesex, England. Inexplicably, she is recorded as "Anne HOLLAND" in the register.
  • John Quarles wrote his will in 1577 & referred to his wife Agnes. He was buried at St Peter Le Poer on the 12th November 1577.
  • Agnes's will is written by "Agnes Quarles"
  • Agnes was also buried at St Peter Le Poer, on the 18th April 1588. Again, the register entry is for "Anne".
