About Alexander McElwain
Alexander McIlvaine (son of John McIlvain and Julianna Schaw) was born 1634 in Ayrshire Scotland (75), and died 1690 in Aughnacloy, Tyrone County, Ulster Province, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. He married Martha McAdam.
notes
Alexander MCILVANE, younger brother of Quentin was, according to Torrence and Allied Families, born in Ayrshire. At the time of the suppression of the Covananters in the 1660s and 1670s, he took his family to Aughnacloy, County Tyrone, in Ireland. His wife is supposed to have been a McADAM, said to have been of the same family as the famous road builder.
a "McIlvaine Family History" was published by a James L. McIlvaine from Falls Church, Virginia. I don't know how accurate it is, but most of the dates and info I have researched is correct. He writes:
"Andrew McIlvaine came fro Aughnacloy, Ireland to America on or about 1719. His father was Alexander Muckelvane of Ayr, Scotland. In the mother country, he had been a clothier. He settled at Cool Spring, Delaware, where, together with Robert Mickey (McKee)who had come over with him, bought a tract of land , 550 acres, from John Russel. (1)
