"Feb. 6 /27

Dear President Coolidge, There is a Pension bill before the Senate to Pension women past 75 years old the amount of $50, per month. It passed both Houses last year but you failed to sign it but did Pension those who were married when their husbands were discharged. My husband Nathan S. Lamar was captured in Stonemans raid at Macon Ga. was in Andersonville nine months and until the close of the war You know of that terrible pen. He came home unable to work for a year. In 1867 we were married I barely 16 we lived together 37 years when he died but all those years suffered from his prison confinement. I feel I did my duty by him nursed him and cared for him now I am almost 77 and $30. per month clothes me and my necessary expense article of room and board and since I cannot work now to earn money I feel I am entitled to the $50. per month, don't you? So I hope you may sign this bill if it passes, and help many loyal women. Very Respectfully one of your loyal admirers Alice Lamar 3435 Charlotte Kansas City, Mo."
