About Alison Ker
ALISON KER (aka ALESOUNE KER)
Spurious Pedigree
It has been falsely claimed, in more than one pedigrees published by FamilySearch, that Alison Ker, here treated, is the daughter of Sir Thomas Ker of Ferniehirst and his second wife Janet Scott, but this is quite wrong. FamilySearch 1 FamilySearch 2 FamilySearch 3
It has also been claimed that Alison Ker, born at Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland, on 14 June 1597, married John Bain, and with him had a child named James Bain, but the connection between her and her putative husband, as also between her and her putative son, has not been satisfactorily demonstrated. WikiTree: Alesone Bain
Find A Grave Memorials have published an entry for Alesoune "Ann" Ker Bane, said to have been born at Edinburgh in Midlothian on 15 June 1597, notwithstanding the fact that a date of death and place of burial have not been identified for her. Find A Grave also have her marrying John Bane at Edinburgh in Midlothian on 20 October 1601 but this is clearly wrong. Find A Grave Memorial
The Question of Identity
Alison Ker is the daughter of Thomas Ker, Baker (Baxer) in Edinburgh. The name of her mother is not identified in her baptismal record. She was born before 15 June 1597, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "Thomas Ker baxter a. d. n. Alesoun w. William Smaill baxter". [National Records of Scotland, Edinburgh Baptisms,1595-1610, reference OPR.685/1/1] Image of Baptismal Record
