Ann Wellborn

Note: town of Kingsville, Baltimore County, MD wasn't formed until the 1800s. Kingsville Maryland named for Abraham King (1760–1836) Ann died in 1756.

"The Crabtree family originated in Yorkshire, England--the name coming from the fact that they lived by the Crabtree in the county of York. The earliest record (from the 'of Southwest Virginia--no longer in print) was of John Crabtree who lived in Yorkshire around the end of the 14th century; William Crabtree of Yorkshire, during the same period; William Crabtree of the Parish of Snaith, Yorkshire 1412; and a bit later, John Crabtree of Halifax, Yorkshire. The first known record of a Crabtree coming to America was in 1622 in Massachusetts. Ann’s parents, William Crabtree and Jane Halstead married in Yorkshire and then immigrated to America, settling in Baltimore. Ann’s *birth was documented as January 15, 1714 In the history of Daniel Boone, there is also an Isaac Crabtree who helped Daniel explore the Kentucky territory. Anne’s sister, Elizabeth (Billingsley) an ancestor to Julia Roberts. Sometime before 1754, William sold his interest in the land he had inherited from his father and he and his wife Ann moved to Guilford County, North Carolina. William Edward and Ann had six children, including Thomas Welborn (1735-1778), William Welborn (1734 – 1792), and James Welborn (1736-1811). Ann died in 1756 at the age of 42 and William in 1773 at the age of 60. There is no record of the exact date of William’s death nor where they are buried.

Ann Crabtree, of William and Jane, was born 15 Jan. 1714/15. On 21 Jan. 1731/32, she married William Wilborn (St. Georges, p.256), son of Edward Wilborn (d. 24 Jan. 1730/31, St. Georges, p.265 of transcript, but p. 101 of "original" register in Hall of Records, Annapolis). Land records between 1750 and 1755 indicate this couple as then residents in Frederick Co., MD. (Patents, Liber BY&GS #3, f. 345; Baltimore Co., MD., Land Record, Liber BB#1, f. 72; Frederick Co., MD., Land Record, Liber E, ff. 535, 544, 726), possibly living in Prince Georges County before the creation of Frederick in 1748.
