Anne Heche

Anne Celeste Heche (/ˈheɪʃ/ haysh; (May 25, 1969 – August 12, 2022) was an American actress.

Heche was born on May 25, 1969, in Aurora, Ohio, the youngest of five children of Nancy Heche (née Prickett) and Donald Joseph Heche. Heche was raised in a conservative religious household by a Baptist choir director and a homemaker. Heche's father died of AIDS when she was only 12 years old, leaving the family in a difficult financial situation. To help her family make ends meet, Heche started her acting career at a dinner theater in New Jersey. The family later moved to the Chicago area.

While in high school, Heche had her first big break when a talent scout spotted her in a school production. After graduation, she moved to New York City to work on the daytime drama “Another World”. On the show, she played twins Marley and Vicky Hudson, who had very different personalities—one was gentle and sweet while the other was a bit wicked and rough around the edges. Heche won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1991 for her work on the show.

Heche followed that success with numerous films, including "Donnie Brasco", "Wag the Dog", "Return to Paradise", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", "John Q", "Volcano", "Six Days Seven Nights" opposite Harrison Ford, and the drama-thriller film Return to Paradise (1998).

Heche made her Broadway debut in the drama “Proof” and received warm reviews. Her next Broadway appearance, 2004's revival of the comedy “Twentieth Century,” earned her a Tony Award nomination.

Following her portrayal of Marion Crane in Gus Van Sant's horror remake film “Psycho” (1998), which earned her a Saturn Award nomination, Heche went on to have roles in many well-received independent films, such as the drama film “Birth” (2004), the sex comedy film “Spread” (2009), “Cedar Rapids” (2011), the drama film “Rampart” (2011), and the black comedy film “Catfight” (2016). She received acclaim for her role in the television film “Gracie's Choice,” which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination

In addition to her film roles, Heche starred in the comedy drama television series “Men in Trees” (2006–2008), “Hung” (2009–2011), “Save Me” (2013), “Aftermath” (2016), and the military drama television series “The Brave” (2017).[9] She voiced Suyin Beifong in the animated television series “The Legend of Korra” (2014), and appeared as a contestant in the 29th season of “Dancing with the Stars” (2020).

In 1997, Heche made news for her romantic life. She became involved with Ellen DeGeneres, the comedienne and sitcom star. Some wondered whether the relationship would have a negative impact on Heche’s career. Others were skeptical of her ability to convince audiences that she could play as a heterosexual romantic lead. While there was some speculation about the end of her career, Heche continued to flourish. She starred as a lawyer in “Return to Paradise” with Vince Vaughn. The pair worked together again on Gus Van Zant’s remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Psycho.” But not long after Heche and DeGeneres ended their relationship in 2000, Heche hit some emotional turbulence. She was hospitalized briefly after being found wandering around near Fresno, California.

Heche wrote candidly about her difficult childhood and other personal challenges in her 2001 memoir, Call Me Crazy. That same year, she married videographer Coley Laffoon. The couple welcomed a son in 2002. In 2007, she separated from her husband, with whom she became involved in a public child custody battle. Thereafter, Heche became romantically linked to her Men in Trees co-star, James Tupper. They never married, although they had a son together; they chose to instead remain "eternally engaged," until announcing their separation in early 2018.

Death

On August 5, 2022, Heche was involved in a sequence of three motor vehicle collisions in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, the final crash being the most serious, inflicting critical injuries on Heche and destroying a house. She died from her injuries, legally brain dead on August 11, but kept on life support until August 14, when organ transplant recipients were found. The office of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner recorded the cause of death as "inhalation and thermal injuries", with "sternal fracture due to blunt trauma" listed as an "other significant condition", and ruled her death an accident. In honor for her organ donation, hospital staff held an honor walk for Heche. [165] Her cremated remains were interred in a mausoleum at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on August 23, 2022.

• Mother: Nancy Prickett. She is the daughter of Richard Carlton Prickett (the son of Richard Carleton/Carlton Prickett) and Marietta Susan (Tukey) Prickett (the daughter of Walter Bradley/Bradlee Cubberley Tukey and Marietta/Minetta Swayzee Coffin).
• Siblings: Susan Claire (Heche) Bergman; Cynthia Anne Heche; Nathan Bradlee Heche and Abigail Anne Maria Heche
• Anne had a son with her former husband, cameraperson Coleman “Coley” Laffoon; and a son with her former partner, Canadian actor James Tupper

Heche was chosen by People as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1998.

For her contributions to the field of acting, Heche received numerous nominations for a wide range of awards such as the “Saturn”, “Tony” and "Satellite Awards”.
