Anthony Holloway (c. 1775–1853) appears in the personal property tax lists of Pittsylvania County from roughly 1796 through 1806. He married his first wife, Anne "Nancy" Williams, in Pittsylvania County on 21 Dec. 1801. Surety was provided by W. Wright. Ann was the daughter and orphan of Joseph Williams. Anthony and Ann moved to Putnam Co., GA by 1807. They were listed that year as charter members of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, just east of Eatonton. (Barnes Holloway Sr. and his wife Sarah Meador had moved to Eatonton, Putnam County about a year earlier.) On 5 Mar. 1808, Anthony purchased Lot #199 in the 3rd District of Putnam County from Nathan Williams, witnessed by Frances Flournoy and Ann Flournoy. Anthony married his second wife, Elizabeth Williams, in Putnam County on 10 Jan. 1810, their marriage performed by Elijah Moseley. Elizabeth's maiden name was Smith. She was the widow of William Williams/Williamson. On 9 Nov. 1811, Anthony sold to William D. Lane Lot #350 in the 12th District. The property was originally granted to William Williamson of Jackson County in 1805, consisting of 202.5 acres. Anthony was acting for himself and his heirs as administrator in right of his wife upon the estate of William Williamson, late of Putnam County and formerly of Jackson County. Six days later, Anthony sold to Dodson Bennett 75 acres in Jackson County, acting for himself
and in the right of his wife as Executor of the estate of William Williamson, deceased. Witnesses were Charles A. Dennis, James S. Wright, and R. DeJernatt. On 7 Apr. 1812, Charles Ingram (for Elizabeth Walker) sold Lot #200 in the 3rd District to Anthony Holloway. Witnesses were John Latimer, Benjamin Harper, Thomas Edwards, and Henry Daniel. In 1813, Anthony was in Capt. Robert Broadnax's tax district, and was an Ensign in the county militia in 1814. On 6 Jun. 1814, Anthony Holloway and Charles A. Dennis gave security for Anthony
Holloway as administrator of William Holloway's estate. (William's identity is uncertain. He may have been Anthony's brother.) On 17 Mar. 1817, Anthony purchased 101 1⁄4 acres at auction that formerly belonged to William Holloway, deceased. The property had been seized by the sheriff to satisfy a suit by Joseph A. Parker. Witnesses were William Cook and Wiley McClendon J.P. On 17 Oct. 1817, Anthony sold 106 acres on Rocky Creek, part of Lot #200 in the 3rd District, to Thomas Hines. The property adjoined Joseph Ballock, Elijah Brooks, and Abraham Lake. J. Parker witnessed the deed. On 11 Sep. 1819, Reuben Williamson sold 102.5 acres to Anthony Holloway. The property was part of Lot #224 in 3rd District, adjoining John Woods, Curchwell Allen, John Cowan, and John Glover. Witnesses were Thomas Hines and Curchwell Allen. Anthony appears in 1820 in Capt. Thomas Bustion's tax district, adjoining Hull. Anthony paid property tax in 1824 in Putnam and Henry counties, and also paid property tax as administrator of Barnett Smith, deceased. The Smith estate owned 303 3⁄4 acres on Lick Creek in Putnam County and 108 1⁄2 acres on Long Creek in Oglethorpe County. Anthony's third marriage was to Zilpha Vining Tomme on 18 Dec. 1836 in Henry County. Anthony was on the census in Putnam County in 1820 and 1830, and on the census in Troup County in 1840 and 1850. He made his will in Troup County on 29 May 1850 and died before 8 Dec. 1853, when his estate was inventoried. He was 78 at the time of death, thus placing his birth as about 1775.
