About Beatrix of Chester
See Peter Bartrum, https://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/bitstream/handle/2160/5378/malpas.... (September 24, 2018; Anne Brannen, curator)
The documentation and source material for the Malpas lines are fraught and contradictory. Darrell Wollcott gives several charts that untangles them, according to place and time -- see http://www.ancientwalesstudies.org/id152.html (December 29, 2015; Anne Brannen, curator)
Please see Darrell Wolcott: The "Malpas" Family in Cheshire; http://www.ancientwalesstudies.org/id152.html. (Steven Ferry, April 19, 2020.)
- ***********************************
Daughter of Ranulf de Gernon, 2nd Earl of Chester and Maud FitzRobert, Countess of Chester. Not to be confused with her niece Beatrix (daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc).
Sir Eynion de Tilston (born c. 1126) was a Norman knight and first lord of the manor of Tilston in the English county of Cheshire.
In the 12th century, William de Malpas gave Eynion the manor of Tilston in Cheshire, near the Welsh border. Sir Eynion was given the Manor of Tilston by the Earl of Chester in return for military service. The man who gave Sir Eynion de Tilston the manor was William de Malpas. He and his descendents had to be constantly alert because of the Welsh who constantly raided the border areas.
Marriage,family and descendants[edit]
In 1154 he married Beatrix de Gernons. Beatrix de Gernons was the daughter of Ranulf de Gernon, Earl of Chester. They had at least one son born around 1156. The name of his son is unknown. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eynion_de_Tilston Wikipedia
Yet another source lists her married to her son! See the attached source document for her name and ancestry.
Ralph ap Einion ap Dafydd ap Sir William, born c. 1125, married Beatrix, born c. 1135, a daughter of Ranulf de Gernon, 4th Earl of Chester, and sister of Hugh Cyfeiliog.
Their daughter Beannan (born about 1160) married William ap Richard ap William lll ap William ll ap Sir William; their child David (b abt 1185) was Dan David "the clerk.". Beannan was not an heiress, her brother David inherited a share of the moeity of Malpas.
- THE "MALPAS" FAMILY IN CHESHIRE By Darrell Wolcott
- Einion, born about 1090, was the son of David, born about 1060, a younger brother of William II ap Sir William. Einion was the father of Ralph of Malpas, born about 1125, who married Beatrix, sister of Earl Hugh Cyfeiliog, 5th Earl of Chester.
- (d) William married Beannan, daughter of Ralph ap Einion ap David ap Sir William by Beatrix daughter of Earl Ranulf II of Chester, sister of Hugh Cyfeiliog
- (a) Pedigrees identify him as holding a moiety of Malpas, or one-half. He would have inheirited 1/3 from his mother, being Ralph's part, and 1/6 from his father, being half of William II's part. His brother, William III held the other 1/6, which descended to Dan David. The final 1/3 of Malpas was held by the line descended from David of 1060. The daughter of Ralph shown in our chart, was not an heiress; she had a brother named David who inherited the final 1/3.
