About Captain John Hart

John Hart was the 5th child of Rev. Oliver Hart and wife Sarah Breece (or Brees). He was born March 6, 1758 in Charleston, South Carolina, and died there in 1814. DO NOT CONFUSE HIM WITH JOHN HART BORN 1758 AND DYING IN ALABAMA.

John suffered from a fever in April, 1771 which nearly took his life. Once he regained his strength, he sailed in June, 1771, for Philadelphia. From there he travelled to Providence, Rhode Island and entered college.He entered the army on August 20, 1776, and was commissioned as a 2nd. Lieutenant, in the 2nd Regiment, under the command of Col. Moultris.
