Email to me April, 2013, "Catharine Orth couldn't of died in 1811 her children were born in 1834 the death date is 23 Jul 1844 She was the wife of William Piper mother of Luther R. Piper & Willie Piper."
I had March 26, 1741 based on 70 ys, 3 mo, 28 ds; and July 25, 1811. It looks like the 23rd to me and 1844 is possible for sure from this photograph.
Birth: 1 JAN 1795 in Lebanon Co, PA Death: 25 JUL 1844 Note: Pennsylvania Genealogies pp 570 So this works out to 49 ys, 6 mo, and 24 ds.
28 ds is clearly on the stone. The stone's 70 years does not look like 49 to me.
"Mrs. (Catherine Orth) Whitehill m., secondly, in October, 1834 , William Piper , of Bedford county, Pa. , b. 1784 ; d. February, 1853 ; son of Col. John Piper."
So who's right? Did the stone cutter make three numerical errors on the same stone? Are the history books right?
This appears to be Catherine Orth Whitehill Piper no matter what the dates are.
The 1840 census puts Catherine Orth as born between 1790 and 1800. So 1795 wins with me. One female unde 26 in 1820 Sullivan, NY, page 177, line 1.
