GEDCOM Note
[Philpot1.FTW] He and his wife settled in Frederick County, Maryland. In the census of 1790 he was listed as head of household with two males under 16 years and one above 16 years. There were six free white females in the home. He owned two slaves. At this time, by estimation, he had two sons and four daughters. The exact date of his birth is recorded in his Revolutionary War record.
On March 9, 1776 Charles, along with his Uncle Barton, signed as a member of a Company of Militia to march and fight anywhere in the Province upon the Command of the Council of Safety. Five months later he was enlisted for service by First Lieut. Clement Hollyday. He was "passed for service" by Col. Wm. Luckett on August 8, 1776 in Frederick Co., Maryland. This was at or in the Flying Camp Company. There is information about this service in his Revolutionary War Declaration. His volunteer service was for a five month tour and was recorded in Frederick Co., Maryland Upper District. On 4 Dec 1776 he enlisted again in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was discharged three years later on December 5, 1779 with the rank of Sergeant from Capt. Bealty's Company 7th Maryland Regiment.
Just when he moved his family from Frederick County to Henry County, Virginia is not known, but perhaps around the year 1792, since he was present at the wedding of his niece, Mary Philpott, to John Stone in Henry County on July 10, 1792. Mary was the daughter of his brother David.
Through the years Charles Thomas lived onBeaver Creek. He purchased 300 acres on July 9, 1793 on Beaver Creek and in 1797 he purchased another 500 acres from his brother Zachariah Philpott, also on Beaver Creek. In 1804 he sold 500 acres to George Hairston. Around 1809 he transferred 75 acres to his son Allen. He purchased 345 acres from Mr. Howard and paid taxes on 570 acres from 1812 to 1816. In 1817 he transferred 75 acres to his son David and in 1822 he transferred 345 acres to his sons Charles and Garrett. He lived on the remaining 150 acres for the rest of his life.
Conflict with children: One source list a Garrett and an Ann G. while another source list only an Ann Garrett. Could these be the same person?
