Colonel in the Revolutionary War. New Jersey legislator.

From about 1778 to 1795, Martin lived on a farmstead near Basking Ridge, New Jersey, that was also the site of Reverend Samuel Kennedy's classical school established circa 1762. The school was the precursor to the Brick Academy School now located in downtown Basking Ridge.

After his Revolutionary War service, Colonel Martin was elected to the Upper House of the newly created New Jersey State Legislature.

He married (1) Martha Squire Abt. 1756. She died 1766 in Hardyston, Middlesex County, NJ. He married (2) Kezia Carmen 1768, daughter of Richard Carman. He married (3) Catherine Wall 1783, daughter of Jarrett Wall.

Ephraim was a Revolutionary War Veteran, Colonel 2nd Regiment, Sussex July 25, 1775. Commanded his regiment at Battle of Long Island, New York and was wounded by a musket ball in the breast April 24, 1776

Colonel in Heard's Brigade June 14, 1776. Marched his regiment with General George Washington to Brandywine, Delaware September 1777. A monument at Valley Forge, erected by the State of New Jersey, includes 4th Rgt, Col. Ephraim Martin, December 16, 1777-June 18, 1778
