Dirck II van Voorne, burgrave of Zeeland

Dirk II van Zeeland van Voorne (c.1165 - 1228) had inherited the lordship of Voorne from his older brother Hugo (died after 1215). His father was Dirk I van Voorne. The title of Naaldwijk, however, went to his younger brother, Bartholomeus van Voorne Van Naaldwijk. Dirk is mentioned as viscount of Zeeland from 1218. He is mentioned as a witness in a number of deeds.

In 1220 Voorne is hit by a flood. Ter Doest Abbey helped to restore the dikes and to dry the lands again. As a thank you, Dirk donated the polder of Middelland to the abdt. The act in question contains the phrase that one gets to know one's true friends in need.

Dirk was possibly married to Alveradis van Cuyk (c. 1165 - 1230), widow of Henry IV of Kessel (c. 1160 - c. 1200). It is certain that his wife's name was Alveradis. Dirk and Alveradis had the following children:

   Hugo (died after 2 January 1254), lord of Heenvliet and will also receive 30 marks per year from Walcheren if he has too little income from Heenvliet, married to one Justine

   Dirk

   Albrecht

Alvaradis had a son from her first marriage: Hendrik V van Kessel (ca. 1180 - after 1236).

(1) Hendrik II van Cuyck van Malsen (ca. 1140 - 1204), lord of Cuyk, city count of Utrecht, guardian of Saint John there, crusader, and of Sophia van Rhenen (ca. 1140 - 1191), heredaughter of Herpen

       (2) Herman van Cuijk (1100-1170) and a daughter of Otto II of Chiny

       (2) Dirk van Rhenen (ca. 1110 - 1176), Viscount of Utrecht, and of a daughter of Hendrik van Bierbeek
