About Dorothy Towsley
Feb 21, 1679/80, Dorothy Toosland, widow of Richard, sold land to Thomas Bull (Saybrook Deeds 1:9). Called widow Towsley in adm. of son John Edwards' estate. [NEHGR: 145:318]
Origins
She was named “my daughter Dorothy Edwards” in Robert Moulton’s 1655 will:
From Robert Moulton entry, in Anderson, Robert Charles. The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633. (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1995).
In his will, dated 20 February 1654/5 and proved 26 June 1655, "Robt. Moulton Senior being by God's hand on my sick bed" appointed "my son Robert Moulton" executor; to "my daughter Dorothy Edwards" £20 and household goods; to "my son Robert" his farm, until "my grandson Robert Moulton" is 21, at which time grandson is to have half farm and apple orchards, and whole at death of his father and mother, and if grandson Robert should die before 21, then to "his next elder brother," and so on; to Goodwife Buffum 20s.; to Joshua Buffum 10s.; residue to "my son Robert" he to pay debts [ EPR 1:210].The inventory totalled £113 8s. with real estate valued at £45: "farm with all the housing on it," £35; and the "houses and ground in the town," £10 [ EPR 1:210-11].

- BIRTH: By about 1587 based on estimated date of marriage.
- DEATH: Salem between 20 February 1654/5 (date of will) and 26 June 1655 (probate of will).
- MARRIAGE: By about 1612 Alice __ (assuming she was the mother of his children). "Alice Molton" joined the church at Charlestown 27 December 1632 [ ChChR 1]. She evidently predeceased her husband.

Her son (not our line) died in in the Great Swamp Fight in King Philip's War, and while dying told his fellow soldiers (in filial devotion) that he wanted his estate left to his mother, a wish that was apparently honored::

A Deposition of Benjamin Adams and Samuel Williams that being
in the late Service against the enemy in the company of JOHN EDWARDS of Wethersfield, the sayd Edwards, being Mortally wounded, did order that his Estate Should remain to his Mother her life time, and after he decease he willed that his brother Joseph should inherit all the estate.
Taken upon oath, 20 January, 1675, before Daniel Witherell, Commissioner.
