About Edmund Farrington, Sr., of Lynn
On 29 Nov 1613 Elizabeth Newhall married Edmund Farrington in Sherington, Buck., Eng. Born ca 1588. Edmund died on 20 Jan 1670/1 in Lynn, MA. Occupation: felmonger. (A dealer in fells or sheepskins, who separates the wool from the pelts.)
Edmund (Edward) of “Oney” aged 47, with wife Elizabeth 49, and children Sarra 14, Mathew 12, John 11, and Elizabeth 8, emigrated with others of the Olney Cluster on the Hopewell in 1635, and settled in Lynn.
Their children include:
- Edward (ca 1615-). Married Dorothy Bowne.
- Thomas (ca 1617-). Married Helena Applegate.
- Sarah (ca 1618-). Married Robert Terry.
- Matthew (ca 1620-). Married 1) ? 2) Elisabeth Sisley.
- John (ca 1622-2 May 1666). Married Elizabeth Knight.
- Elizabeth (ca 1624-). Married John Fuller.
Notes
Embarked from London April 1, 1635 on the ship "Hopewell" with his wife and 4 children. Record in Westminster Hall, London. He was given 200 acres of land in Lynn, MA. In 1655 built a corn mill on Waterhill, where a pond was dug and a water course opened for a half mile. A fell-monger is one who makes sheepskins though he probably didn't pursue it here. in 1666 an inventory of the estate of John, his son "The water mill, dams, floodgates, mill house, etc. 190 pounds being in equal partnership with Edmund Farrington half of all belonging to deceased, 95 pounds. ref Buchinghamshire Subsidy rolls 1620-28 and NEGR 55/p301
