Duchess Elizabeth Magdalen was born in 1580. April 17 in Wolgas. Her father was the Pomeranian-Volga Duke Ernst Ludwig, mother of Sofia Hedvig came from Braunschweig-Lüneburg. 1600th On May 14, Elizabeth Magdalen in Wolgaste married Duke Friedrich and arrived in Kurzeme in autumn. Her mentality was largely influenced by her own time-she cordially believed in God, but also devil, witches and spells. However, this did not prevent the Duchess from actively engaging in politics. With the support of Duke Friedrich's efforts to secure Kurland's neutrality and to achieve the recognition of Prince Jacob's right to the throne of the Duchy, she developed extensive correspondence with rulers of various countries, officials and their wives.

Elizabeth Magdalenos owned more than 20 manors, the most important of them were Jumpravmuiza, Mezmuiza, Lipsti and Ozolmuiza near Jelgava. She carefully monitored the estate of her estates. Manor managers had to submit a report to the Duchess several times a week and harmonize all works. The manors devoted a great deal to horticulture and medicinal herbs. The Duchess's pharmacists, as well as her own plants, used herbs to make medicines. Elizabeth Magdalen is well suited to the art of healing.

Particularly important in the Duchess's life was her widow's court - Dobele Palace and Manor. After the death of the Duke Friedrich and the coming of James on the throne (1642), the complex of the castle, after the Duchess's order, carried out extensive construction and improvement works. Elizabeth Magdalen moved to Dobele Castle in 1643. November and died there in 1649. February 23rd.

One of the last activities of the Duchy was the establishment of the town of Jaunjelgava (restoration) in 1646. In honor of his deceased husband, Duke Friedrich, she called it Friedrichstadt Added by Janet Milburn 9/26/18
