About Eleanor Esther Sarah Lever
"Lever, Eleanor Esther Sarah (née Brain) ‘Esther’ Born at Whangaroa in Northland, New Zealand on 6 May 1878. Eleanor married Harold Tennant Lever (1872-1959) in the garden at what is now Brain Watkins House Museum in Tauranga on 14 June 1911. After serving as a pupil teacher at Te Puke No. 1 School, Esther was appointed a teacher at Te Puke No. 2 school in March of 1900. at TE Puke and was then headmistress at Te Matai, riding home to Tauranga on the weekends side-saddle atop her horse. She also taught at Waihi before marrying…. She was Headmistress at Te Matai School, later teaching at Te Puke and Waihi before moving north. Eleanor died at Ōtāhuhu in Auckland on 10 April 1950 and was buried in Papatoetoe Cemetery."
