About Elizabeth Fleming
Epaphradotius married Elizabeth Madestard, she gets pregnant, he dies before the child is born. She then marries before the child is born. Elizabeth Madestard's marriage delivers all the vast holdings of Epaphroditus Lawson to her husband. Things become complicated. The estate was entailed (could only go to his line as willed by him).
notes
- From "A Family Tradition Tested". He [Capt. Alexander Fleming] married 3rd before 5 Feb. 1660-61, ELIZABETH MADESTARD, sister of Thomas Madestard, and widow of Epaphroditus Lawson and William Clapham, Jr. On 3 July 1666 she is called in a document "Late Wife of Mr. Alex. Fleming."
- the Ancestral File from the LDS has her as the daughter of William Madestard b 1604 of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England. Not sure how this reconciles with Thomas Madestard JR being her brother ....
