About Elizabeth Hopkins (Fisher), "Mayflower" Passenger
Elizabeth Fisher married Stephen Hopkins as his second wife February 19, 1617/8, in St. Mary Matfellon, Whitechapel, Middlesex, England.
Her parents are not known.
Their first child, Damaris, was born about 1618. In 1620, Stephen Hopkins brought his wife, and children Constance, Giles (children by his 1st wife, Mary) and their daughter Damaris on the Mayflower; Stephen & Mary's daughter Elizabeth apparently had died.
She gave birth during the Mayflower voyage to a son, Oceanus. He died young, sometime before 1627.
Children Caleb Hopkins, Deborah (Hopkins) Ring, Damaris (Hopkins) Cooke, Ruth Hopkins and Elizabeth Hopkins were born in the Plymouth Colony.
She likely died before June 6, 1644, as she is not mentioned in her husband's will written on that date.

Aboard the Mayflower, Atlantic Ocean
Oceanus Hopkins (1620 – c. 1627) was the first and only child born on the Mayflower during its historic voyage which brought the Pilgrims to America. He was born to Stephen Hopkins and his wife, Elizabeth, sometime between the boarding and arrival dates of September 6 and November 9, 1620. He did not survive long, and was dead before the 1623 Division of Land. Oceanus Hopkins was named so because he was born in a ship in the Atlantic Ocean and the Latin word for the ocean is Oceanus. |
