BIRTH OF Elizabeth Lee 1653 - 1700 , Virginia
Five IGI's (Family Search.org Records) state that Elizabeth Lee was born at Paradise Plantation in Gloucester County, Virginia. Her father, Colonel Richard Lee, had patented land at Tindal's Point across the York River from Yorktown. Then, on the north side of the York River, he patented a thousand acres of land at the head of Poropotank Creek about twenty miles north of the York River on August 10, 1642. This was then York County, but Gloucester County was formed out of this area in 1651 (various histories). Richard Lee acquired 500 acres on May 24, 1651 on land adjacent to "War Captain's Neck." That same year he acquired an additional 500 acres on Poropotank Creek. He sold some land, but kept 850 acres to which he gave the name "Paradise" when he resettled there in 1653 (Lee, Edmund 50-60; The Lees of Virginia--Digital Archives).
His land grants were given in payment for the large number of immigrants he imported from England. Colonel Richard Lee, while Secretary of State for Virginia, received eight hundred acres of Land in Northumberland County on May, 1651. This was on the south side of the Dividing Creek stream. This grant was for the transportation of sixteen immigrants (Lee, Edmunds 55-56).
About 1656 (Wikipedia article), Colonel Richard Lee moved his family to Virginia's Northern Neck on the Chickacoan peninsula between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers. Northumberland County was formed in 1645 from this Chickacoan peninsula. Today, it contains four counties. The family settled on a tract of land purchased from the Wicomico Indians. This was called the Dividing Creek planation, near the present day town of Kilmarnock. This was known in later generations as Cobb's Hall, just south of Wicomico Church but north and east of the Lancaster County line on the "Chickacoan" peninsula. Cobb's Hall is in present day Northumberland County. St. Stephen's Church is at Heathsville, the government center for Northumberland County. Colonel Richard Lee, this American Lee patriarch, aquired 13,000 acres in Northumberland County before his 1664 death at the Dividing Creek Planatation.
Without checking the IGI information, sources agree that Elizabeth Lee was born on the Paradise Plantation area in Gloucester County.
