Capt. Richard Croshaw was brother of Major Joseph Croshaw and was b. in 1621 and d. in April, 1669; m. Elizabeth , and left Benjamin d. s. p. [as Benjamin was a. name given to a son by each brother it was probably the name of their father], Rachel who m. John Walker, of St. Stevens Parish in King and Queen County, Margaret d. s. p., and Elizabeth who m. Rie Jones of York County. [The latters will was proved May 24, 1697; he had 7 Morris Jones, Rebecca, and other children. In 1724, Elizabeth, admr. of Richard Croshaw Walker, was wife to Christopher Beverley. Croshaw is sometimes written Crosher in the records]

Capt Martin Palmer (died about 1702) was married four times. His first wife was Mary, whom he married in England and who died sometime before Feb. 26, 1667/68. His second wife was Rachel Jones, whom he had married by Feb., 26, 1667/68, and she was the daughter of Rice (or Reece) Jones and widow of Capt. Richard Croshaw. His third wife was the widow of Capt. William Cobbs (or Corben) [SIC: CORKER] whom he had married by Jan. 14, 1667/68. His fourth wife was the widow of Dr. Thomas Robins, who he had married by Feb. 24, 1678/79.
Martin was evidently married 4 times, as appears by the following records:
(1) On June 25, 1677, Capt. Martin Palmer was appointed administrator of the estate of Benjamin Croshaw, son of Capt. Richard Croshaw, deceased, in the right of said Martin Palmer's wife, Rachel, youngest daughter of Mr. Rice (or Reece) Jones and relict of said Capt. Richard Croshaw (Vol DW-6, p. 95). Evidently Benjamin Croshaw had died more than a year previous, for on Dec. 24 1675, Capt. Martin Palmer was ordered by the court not to remove any of the estate in the County of York "till such time as he shall have given security for the orphans of Benjamin Croshaw" (Vol. DW-6, p. 30) Martin's first wife Mary evidently had died shortly before this date.
(2) On January 14, 1667/8, Capt. Martin Palmer was appointed administrator of the estate of Capt. William Cobbs (or Corben), [SIC Corker] deceased, "as intermarrying with the relict of the said Capt. Cobbs," and Daniel Parke, Esq. was security on his bond (Vol. DW-6, p. 26)
(3) On February 24, 1678/9, Capt. Martin Palmer was a plaintiff against John Hallum in an action from which it appeared that Palmer had married the Administratrix of Dr. Thomas Robins and subsequent thereto (cont. on page 6820)

His accounts as Administrator were examined by the court, "as marrying the Administratrix of Thomas Robins" (Vol. DW-6, pp. 45, 69,78).

Page 289. Palmer vs Word: Oct. Court, 1738.

In detinue for slaves upon a special verdict. The pltf's mother, when she married his father Martin Palmer deed, was possessed of Bridget and several other slaves &c. Palmer died before his wife in 1717 & by his will devised Bridget &c to his other children. The wife afterwards married the defendant, and in 1721 an action of detinue was brought in King and Queen Ct. in the name of the pit., his brothers and sisters, by their next friends Martin and Roger Palmer agts the defendant and his then wife as one of the extors of said testator, for Bridget and the other slaves devised to them. Verdict for defendant. Judgment in General Court for the defendant. (In the York Co. Records there is this entry: "December 10, 1676. It is the opinion of the Court about the estate of Benjamin Croshaw deed, sonne of Capt. Richard Croshaw dee'd. that Capt Martin Palmer as intermarrying with the relict of the said Capt. Croshaw deed to have administration in right of Rachel youngest daughter, & Mr. Rice Jones, in right of his wife, on the said Benjamin his estate." On January 14, 1677 (78) a commission of administration was granted to Capt. Martin Palmer "as intermarrying with the relict of Capt. Wm. Corker deed.")

After the death of Capt. Richard Croshaw, his widow married Capt. Martin Palmer He is a vital link in proof that the Croshaw name became Crenshaw.

Write of Partition. 30th Sept, 1692. The Sheriff of York County ordered to impanel a Jury to divide 200 acres in Marston alias Bruton Parish. This land having been left to Elizabeth, widow of Rice Jones of York County, lately deceased, and Rachell wife of John Walker of King and Queen County, "sisters and co-heires of Benjamin Crotia, deceased, sonn of Mr: Richard Crotia likewise deceased." The 200 acres of land is described as adjoining the Indian field and now in occupation of Robert West.
John and Rachel Walker having lately sold their half to Col. Edmund Jennings, the division is ordered.

Thus, according to the will of Richard Croshaw and the Writ of Partition, Elizabeth (Croshaw) Jones, daughter of Richard Croshaw, was married to Rice Jones prior to July 1667 and she outlived him, being his widow when Elizabeth died in 1692.

Richard CROSHAW b 1621/22-d.1669 married Elizabeth ?(thought to be d/o Roger MALLORY) and had at least Benjamin, Elizabeth and Rachel. Elizabeth married Rice JONES first and Christopher BEVERLY 2nd. This Rachel could be a child born at the time of his death OR a daughter of Benjamin, but she married by 1692 to Lt.Col. John WALKER s/o Maj. Thomas Walker and they have sons Richard CROSHAW , John and Capt. Thomas WALKER.
