After the battle of Hastings, William the conqueror, knighted Richard and awarded him an estate in the town of Brixham county of Devonshire England, Alwington Residence. It should be noted at the Abbey of Tavistock grant gave privilege of his church to the coffin family. He was primarily the founding father of the Coffyn clan. He had a son, Richard. He was listed in the Domesday book.
