One researcher states that Hazel was married twice. The first husband was named Fred William Johnson. They were married in 1912 in Fresno County, California. I have not yet located a marriage license to verify this marriage.
Arnold O. Sowers, Sr., was born September 21, 1891 in Colorado and died March 4, 1971. He is buried at Mendocino Cemetery, Parlier, Fresno County, California. Arnold enlisted during WWI and served as a private in Co. G, 58th Infantry.
Arnold appears in the 1930 US Census for Parlier, Fresno County, California, listed as a 37 year old, born in Colorado to parents both born in Ohio. He gave his occupation as pool hall proprietor. Also in the household were wife Hazel, age 33, sons Arnold and Orivlle, and daughter Doris, all still in school. The children were all born in California.
Arnold appeared in the 1940 US Census for Parlier, Fresno County, California, listed as a 47 year old, born in Colorado, working as a road grader for the county road department. Hazel, age 43, is now a café proprietor. Arnold, Jr., age 21, is a café waiter. Orville, age 19, is working as a laborer on a fruit ranch. Doris, age 18, is working as a fruit packer.
