The ranks of the old colonists were depleted by tile death of Mr. Henry .Hamilton, of Morphett Arms road, near Brighton, on Sunday, at the age of 81 years The deceased had been ill for some months. Mr. Hamilton was born in 1826 near Dover Castle, and was educated at Christ's Hospital.
He arrived in the State in 1841 in the barque Christina. He first went to the Burra, and was employed on a farm, but in 1848 he settled on a section near Oaklands, on the banks of the River Sturt, and farmed on his own account. It was a beautiful strip of country, and success attended his efforts. This section is said to be the only one in the district which has not changed hands, but is still held by the Hamilton family. In 1831 he purchased an adjoining section, which he planted with vines. amid this fine place, now so well known as Ewell Vineyard, was the result. Many of these vines, still in bearing, ore over.50 years of age.. Mr.. Hamilton occupied the position of Chairman, and afterwards Clerk, of the Marion District Cornell for over 20 years. He was also secretary of the Sturt Agricultural Satiety for several years. He has left a widow and five sons—Messrs. George H. (Sturt), Charles (Frabklin Harbour), Frank and John R. (Brighton), and .Walter A. (of Bendigo, Victoria).

Henry remained in England to complete schooling and followed his family in 1841.
Henry's wife died in 1870 and on 28 March 1872 he married Sarah Glover, but in December she also died. On 2 February 1878 he married Mary, née Schroder, widow of Captain John Finlay Duff.
