About Isabell Gilbert
Thomas is named in the Gilbert Tree shown in the Visitation of the County of Devon in 1564 as the son of Otho Gilbert and Elizabeth Hyll and married to Isabella and with children Otho and Joan.[1]
The Inquisition Post Mortem of Thomas Gilberd son and heir of Otho Gilbert was held at Plymton on 18 Oct in the 21 year of the reign of King Henry VIII (=1529) and named his heir as Otho Gilbert aged 16.

Biography
In the Penkevill of Penkevill pedigree, John Penkevill is shown married to Isabell the daughter and co-heir of John Rayneward.
Gilbert of Compton Family tree was produced for the 1564 Visitation of Devon and shows Isabella (with no maiden name given) as the wife of Thomas.
30 Mar 1510: Grant, property in Padstow:[2] Parties:
- 1) Isabella Gilbard, wife of Thomas Gilbard, to
- 2) [ ---] 1551/52: Pre-nuptial settlement, Boscorne, Bodmin:[3] John Hore, son of Richard Hore, to marry Kateryn, daughter of Philip Penkevell before purification of Blessed Virgin Mary if the laws of the Church shall permit; Richard to make sufficient estate in law of lands and tenements to yearly value of 10 marks for John and Kateryn, Richard to have property for life; Philip Penkevell to make sufficient estate in law of lands and tenements to yearly value of 30 shillings for John and Kateryn, also to pay John Hore £40, part on the wedding day, rest one year later and to apparel Kateryn according to John Hore's degree and to give John and Kateryn sufficient meat and drink over two years and the house of Babel Gilbert, Philip, Penkevell's mother, at Boscorne if they choose to take it, 16 January 1551.
