James married Frances LEE on 29/10/1837 Hastings and they had the following children

The extended ELPHICK family left England on "Juliana" which was shipwrecked on 19/1/1839 off Capetown, South Africa. The family were transferred to the "May Hay" and arrived in Sydney Cove on 19 May 1839. The extended family consisted of

- son James + his wife Frances + son WIlliam
- son Stephen
- daughter Sarah
His son, William died not survive the journey.
