Per "History of Perquimans County" pg 384....James Morgan emigrant o NC came from Mary Land where he had married Jane Knea Oct 12, 1673. (Berkely Parish Register.)...James Morgan was granted 300 acres in Perq. Precinct May 22, 1694, "on branch of Vosses Creek" adjoining William Vosse and Francis Toms. His son John made a deed of gift to his daughter Mary Elliott, wife of Thomas Elliott Jr. on Jan 12, 1724/25, 50 acres on said Branch. He called this land "Broad Neck," and later it was spoken of as "on Morgan's Swamp" and it seems evident that it was situated on the south side of Vosses Creek, where said Toms land was located, and the Swamp mentioned is probably the one just above what is now called Brights Mill, between Winfall and Brights Creek.

Research Notes

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Morgan-900

Several sites have linked him as the son of John Morgan-10687 (b: 1609), but no proof has been provided.

His DOB has been consistently reported across FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com as 13 Mar 1643.

Many family trees show his marriage location as Berkeley Parish, Maryland. The only known marriage record is in the parish register of Berkeley Precinct, North Carolina. It states that she and James Morgan were married in "Mary Land" - no location in Maryland mentioned.

Different birth localities and dates have been found for several of his children. "History of Perquimans County" by Ellen Goode Rawlings Winslow (1931), citing Berkeley, Maryland parish registers gives only the births of the sons, but has them listed in Berkeley, Maryland, citing the Berkeley parish register that reflects his marriage to Jane Knea. However, the FamilySearch records for the sons list the localities as North Carolina. More research is needed to confirm. S. Grimaldi 05 May 2021.

Death dates for him of c1714 and 30 April 1718 have been identified on FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com, but no documentation has been provided to verify.

There is also substantial conflation with Capt. James Morgan of Groton, Connecticut, who was born in 1644 and died in 1711.

Additionally, there is conflation between James Morgan, Sr., and his son James Morgan, Jr., with some sites attributing James Morgan, Jr.'s death date of 1743 to his father.

An image of a 1712 list of tithables taken by James Morgan, Constable, posted by a user with no accompanying documentation on Ancestry.com], but again, there is no way to know if it references James Morgan, Sr. or James Morgan, Jr., without further documentation. Assigning DOD as c1714; needs more research.S. Grimaldi 05 May 2021.
