

Revolutionary War Records Duplin and Sampson Counties NC by Virginia L. Bizzell and Oscar M. Bizzell WEST, James, private, N.C. Militia, 1st continental Line Soldier was living in Bladen county and saw service in the militia light horse under Col. Nicholas Long. Then in 1782 he enlisting as a private to serve for 18 months in Capt. Sharp's company.
In 1765 he bought land on Little Cohera in what was to be Sampson County but continued to live in Bladen, this was sold in April 1772. On 20 April 1773 he purchased 200 acres on the east side of Great Cohort. His wife was Bettie _____ and they had the following children: 1- James, Jr about 1750. 2- John born about 1752 who married Nancy Swann. 3- Willis about 1755 who married lst to Sarah Gainey and 2nd to Sylvia Harmon. 4-Samuel born about 1760. And 5- William born about 1775 who married 7 Nov 1846 to Hannah Jane Fowler.
