About Jane Lobdell
Biography
Taken from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-381560 and then edited.
This is the profile for the wife of Nicholas Lobdell who was living in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1636-1648.
Some online family trees say that the name of Nicholas Lobdell of Hingham's wife was Elizabeth Jane Hovey or Elizabeth Perkins. However, no reliable evidence has been found that supports either claim.
Marriage
The date and place of marriage of Nicholas Lobdell and Jane/Jone/Ane is uncertain. Based on the estimated date of birth of their son James (1629 to early 1630), they were most likely married in 1628-1629. Based on the fact that the only known records for Nicholas Lobdell of Northam and his wife are in Northam, it is most likely that they were married in or near Northam.
Emigration to New England; Settlement in Hingham
As discussed in his profile, Nicholas Lobdell and his family probably emigrated from England to Hingham, Massachusetts in either 1635 or 1636.
Children
Assuming Nicholas Lobdel of Hingham was the same person as Nicholas Lobdell of Northam, he (and presumably his wife Jane/Jone/Ane) had the following children:
- James, b. probably sometime in 1629 to early 1630 in Devonshire,[4] bur. 23 September 1632 in Northam[5]
- Elizabeth, bpt. 21 August 1631 at Northam, m. 20 October 1651 Jonathan Burt at Springfield, d. 11 November 1684 in Springfield. (See sources in Elizabeth's profile.)
- Symon/Simon, bpt. 23 December 1632 at Northam,[6] m. say 1666 Persis [Pierce?],[7] d. before 4 October 1717 in Milford, Connecticut[8]
- Ane/Ann, bpt. 8 March 1634/5 in Northam, m. 3 January 1660/1 Samuel Terry in Springfield, d. May 1684 in Springfield. (See sources in Ann's profile.)
- Isaac, b. say 1637 Hingham, m. probably 1656 Martha Ward, d. 26 April 1718 at Hull[1]
- John], b. say 1639 at Hingham,[1] m. 1st 19 July 1659 Hannah Leverett at Hingham,[9] m. 2d 21 February 1664/5 ________ Bosworth at Hingham,[9] d. before 3 November 1673 at Hull[9]
Death
Nicholas Lobdel's wife died in Hingham in March 1641.[10][11]

LOBDELL From two immigrant ancestors, Simon Lobdell, of Milford, Connecticut, and Nicholas Lobdell, of Hingham, Massachusetts, are descended so far as known, all those of that name in this country. No relationship is traced between these men, although relationship is thought to have existed. The descendants of Nicholas, with only a few exceptions, have their homes in the eastern states. The name in various public records is spelled: Lobdale, Lobden. Lobdle, Lobdel, Lobdill and Lopdell.
(I) Nicholas Lobden, the compiler of the "Lobdell Genealogy," assumes that Nicholas Lobden (as the name was then spelled) came from Hastings, Kent county, England. "Nicholas Lobden, a retainer of Captain James Lasher, Baron to Parliament, arrested on a plea for debt, prayed to be discharged, 22 Sept., 1621."
Letters from Sir Thomas Richardson secured his pardon 3 Oct., 1621. James Lasher was mayor of the ville and port of Hastings, Kent, England. Nicholas Lobden had grants of land in Hingham, Massachusetts, in 1635-36, but whether he was a resident oi the town for any time appears doubtful. Hobart's diary states "Goodman Lobdell's wife died 1641."
Nicholas is supposed to have married (second) Bridget Pierce, sister of Michael Pierce, of Hingham, but this is only conjecture, and to have died about 1645-46. Mrs. Bridget Lobdell married (second) 164748, Nathaniel Bosworth, who left bequests in his will to Mary, Sarah, John and Nathan Lobdell. These, together with Isaac, are supposed to be the children of Nicholas Lobden.

- James' estimated date of birth of sometime in 1629 or early 1630 is based on the fact that (1) since James was buried on 23 September 1632, he was born on or before that date and (2) the gap between his sister Elizabeths baptism on 21 August 1631 and James' burial is only 13 months, which makes it unlikely that he was born during that time period. It is therefore most likely that James was born before his sister Elizabeth. Based on a typical 2-year gap in births, that would make James' estimated date of birth as about 1629. However, since the birth gaps between his sister Elizabeth in August 1631 and his brothe Symonh in December 1632 is 16 months, a shorter gap between James' birth and that of his next younger sibling is reasonably plausible, which means that James might have been born in early 1630.

- Son Simon married a woman whose first name was Persis, as established by a record of the admission to the church of Milford, Connecticut in 1678 of "Persis (wife of Simon) Lobdell" (see image attached to Persis' profile). Julia Harrison Lobdell stated that her maiden name was Pierce, but no evidence supporting that assertion has been found. Based on the estimated date of birth of Simon's first born child (about 1667), Simon and Persis were probably married about 1666.
