Jane Lindes Merrow was probably born about 1634 in Ireland. Many Irish-born women were brought to New England in the 1650's as house servants. She was employed by Frances Hopkins of Woburn. [1] [2]

She was married, first, to Nicholas Wallis, a Scotsman, by 1655. He had arrived in 1652 on the vessel "John & Sarah". The marriage was ordered by the Court after Nicholas was charged with frequenting the house where Jane was employed. Nicholas died sometime before 1661, leaving Jane a widow with a four year old son, John Wallis, who was born in 1657. John Wallis was drowned in 1670, aged 13. [2] [3]

Jane married, second, Henry Merrow of Reading December 19, 1661 in Woburn and the family lived in Reading. Eleven children were born to them in Reading:[2] [4]

1. Daniel, born September 14, 1662; 2. John, born 1663; 3. Henry, born 1664-1666; 4. Sarah, born 1667 to 1668; 5. Hannah, born March 5, 1669; 6. Samuel, born October 9, 1670; 7. Mary, born April 22, 1673; 8. Elizabeth, born July 20, 1674; 9. Joseph, born December 31, 1675; 10. Deborah, born October 11, 1677; 11. Jane, born October 15, 1680

Henry Merrow died in Reading November 5, 1685 and his widow, Jane Merrow, was granted administration of his estate. [2]

Jane Lindes Merrow died by 1701, probably in Reading. Her place of burial is unknown. [2]
