Jeptha Dyches was born October 11, 1845 in Jefferson County, Texas, son of Joseph Josiah Dyches and Elizabeth {Lewis) Dyches. He came with his parents to Williamson County, Texas, shortly after his birth. He was shot to death on October 7 or 8th, 1875, aged 30 year & 7 days and was buried in the McFadin Cemetery, Circleville, Williamson County, Texas.

Jeptha was listed as 4 years of age in the 1850 U.S. Census and 14 years of age in the 1860 U.S. Census.

According to family members Jeptha went to a dance at someone's house, got into an argument and gunfight with John Beard and was shot to death. Nothing is known whether John Beard was tried as a result of gunfight or if he was also killed.

No gravestone was found for Jeptha in 2010 and his vital statistics are taken from the original 1970 survey.

1870 U.S. Census Report, Circleville, Williamson County, Texas, Page 158, Family 1075/1075. In this census Jdp was listed as a 25 years old stock driver with $300 worth of real estate and $1500 worth of personal property living with his 23 years old wife Elizabeth and their children; 4 years old Darcy and i year old Toni. Also listed with the family was 16 years old Milbern Loc. All of the above were born in Texas.
